Found this album for £1. 00 and played it ...
Found this album for £1.00 and played it 100 times or more...a touch of genius from Amanda. I read that she couldn't get a recording contract after the third album. Absolute sacrilege with the voice that she has!! This album is an absolute classic, and will stand the test of time . Buy it now, and let's get her career back on track. What a singer!!

Dark Horse
This cd was given to me and lay unlistened to for months before I finally decided to give it a go. And thank god I did. Opening with a strong guitar track called Let It Rain, she reminded me slightly of a finer Tracy Chapman. But if you expect samey sounding guitar tracks then your in for pleasant surprise. Highlights of the album is the classic Dark Horse, which has intelligent honest lyrics mixed with a hard backbeat and piano, another highlight is Beautiful Goodbye, which is slow ballad like and dramatic. Women like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion should take note of her simple but effective singing style and her ability to contribute her own self to the album without reverting to unneccessary histrionics or partial nudity. Buy this and your buying one of the best albums from a Canadian artist.

Great debut
This is the excellent debut from Canadian artist Amanda Marshall and is an album I still play regularly even after all these years; the mark of a good album I'd say. Amanda has been compared to Sheryl Crow and I guess there is that element to her music and this came out at a time when Crow was particularly popular, but to be honest Amanda also has a sound all of her own. I think my favourite has to be `Beautiful Goodbye' which is a beautiful ballad and probably the slowest track on the album, but something about it still resonates with me and I love the way it builds to the big crescendo finish. The rest of the album is more rock/pop and more upbeat. If you like this, try her second album `Tuesday's Child' which I also great, but I tend to feel she lost her way a bit after that. If you enjoy well produced, easy going rock/pop music and great vocals, then give this a go, you shouldn't be disappointed.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Excellent debut album!!
This is an aritst who believes she can become as good as everyone else. And she is. If this album is anything to go by I'd say she's as good as the best of them. It opens up strongly with the rocky 'Let It Rain' and finishes with a powerful 'Promises'. Half-way through, there's a lovely and haunting track 'Beautiful Goodbye' and the sublime/gorgeous 'Birmingham' and 'Dark Horse'. Although all the tracks are of a high standard the final track 'Promises' is probably my favourite. A very good start to a glistening career.

Stunning, beautiful, excellent.
"Who?" you might say. This only just turns out to be what I regard as the find of the year from this Canadian artist. I suspect that while a lot of credit must go to the producer, and co-writer of many of the songs, David Tyson - Ms Marshall herself has a really, REALLY fine voice. There is not a weak song on this album, Let It Rain, Trust Me (This Is Love) and Last Exit To Eden ("Was I betrayed by a Judas kiss?") all bustling for the finishing tape for best track, but they're all pipped by the absolutely outstanding Beautiful Goodbye. If your neighbours don't get familiar with this, then you've not got a high-enough powered hi-fi. Or a heart that's been hurt. Very highly recommended.

Wonderful CD - perfect for any time you need to be lifted
Amanda Marshall has been gifted with an amazingly soulful voice. I think that word - soulful - is used much too frequently, given to people who don't truly know what it means. But Amanda Marshall is not that woman. She has a blend of a gravelly and angelic voice that reverberates through your heart, through your mind, sending your ears into sensory overload. Or it should anyway. If you have ANY musical taste - you will love Amanda Marshall. And this particular CD has some of my absolute favorites."Let It Rain" - written by Kristen Hall. Perfect marriage of a beautiful tune, great vocals and wonderful lyrics. Hauntingly beautiful."Birmingham" - a beautiful tune written about a woman who recognizes her volatile situation and is trying to make her way out of it."Dark Horse" - co-written by Amanda. Hauntingly endearing song that remembers a time in youth when love is fresh and new and wonderful, but also tinged by doubts. Amanda's vocal on this is perfect. Mila Mason does a great version of it too, but Amanda's voice just entrances you."Beautiful Goodbye" - a song of remembrance and realizing that one moment sometimes lasts a lifetime - just not always the way we think it will."Last Exit To Eden" - a woman trying to find herself and determine if she has given up something she should have grabbed onto, or was it the right thing to do..."Trust Me (This is Love)" - a sweet song of trying to hold together a love that faces challenges..."Let's Get Lost" - Amanda opens up her vocal range a bit and there's a serious guitar groove on it that's wonderful...Like all Amanda songs - there's not a true miss on this album, but there are some better than others. But it's completely worth the price and a great listen...if you give yourself over to just feeling the music. Great album.
