The Cook Book

This is the one indispensable cookbook in our home. It is not just the recipes, although many of them are excellent, but the many pages which explain all about food, its sources, different varieties and how to use them, how to handle and basically prepare for cooking are worth it even if there were no recipes. Even when making recipes from other sources, I will generally see what Terence and Caroline say about the matter first, get a second opinion and see if there are some basics I should know.My wife brought this book into our marriage almost 25 years ago when I could barely boil water. No matter how basic or obcure my question as I tried to master cooking, it could generally be relied on to answer it. The internet is full of advice, but it is not all good. This book is a masterpiece if you are looking for advice on the selection, purchase, preparation and presentation of all kinds of food.Very well and clearly illustrated, it has been read more than any other book in our house except the Bible.

I have been searching for a copy of this book forever, since mine disappeared. This is the best book to learn about all the different food of the world and how to prepare them. it cross references itself with other things in the book back and forth. no need to worry about what something is. very informative

Bought as gift for daughter. This is a book that I have owned since it was first published - my copy has just been re-bound at considerable expense. Was not sure what to expect in terms of the physical aspect of the book. What I received was in as-new condition. I was delighted. I feel that my daughter will come to use this book as I do - a complete reference to any aspect of food and cooking. I cannot praise the book highly enough.

Ein Buch in dem ganz klar Fische Fleischsorten Ceralien Gemüse Obst etc. erklärt werden. Der Zweite Teil einige Rezepte. Für jeden der in der Küche creativ sein will eine gute Kochschule.

A friend makes a chicken in mustard dish from this book and I finally decided to try and get a copy. Although out of print it is innovative and the recipes work which is not the case for many cook books.
