Most amazing surprise-LOVE IT!
I resisted a hand grinder for years because it just seemed like too much work. But then...I wanted something for travel so I got this one. OMG. I love it. What I thought was going to be difficult is easy as can be. It's quiet. It's (relatively) quick. And it is way easier to set different grinds than it is on my super-duper $400 Italian-made electric grinder! That THIS GRINDER IS QUIET is particularly important to me first thing in the morning. The Chestnut satisfies that in spades. I may be the only one highly noise-sensitive, but I doubt it. I find myself reaching for this in the morning at home over my loud, very expensive Italian electric grinder. THE GRIP IS FANTASTIC. The regular (non-spiked) version of this grinder is best. It's softly "sanded" for a good grip where the more spiky one hurts my hands. The normal one has a surface that has great grip as far as I'm concerned. I have small hands and the SIZE of the cylinder is comfortable for my grasp as well. I personally like to BALANCE THINGS and this grinder gives me the easy ability to hold in my left hand and grind with the right hand then to switch and hold in my right hand and grind with my left hand. I realize this is a very personal thing, but for someone who has had both a broken wrist on one side and a broken thumb on the other size, this kind of flexibility is wonderful. I try to use my grinding now as ongoing therapy. But if you develop (or have) arthritis, this grinder accommodates. And if you are wondering, IT IS EASY TO GRIND WITH THE CHESTNUT. I am in my 70s and have had hand and finger injuries in the past. So if I find it easy, put that in perspective.

Some grounds cling to everything
On a straight grinding basis, this thing is great. It gives a nice, uniform grind, and it feels like it's doing the job easily and smoothly. It's maybe a bit unwieldy while grinding, but if you hold it as close to the base as possible, it won't wobble too much. I tried two different batches of beans. One batch looked really fresh and was quite oily. The other was a bit dried out, but not excessively so. For the oilier batch, a lot of the grounds clung to the grinding mechanism. Whacking the device with my hand got some of it out, but others still stuck. I also needed to use a toothpick to get all the grounds out of the repository. I also got some grounds everywhere when I separated the top from the bottom, since they were stuck to the grinder output which was facing downward. With the drier beans, everything was loose and poured out easily. I wish the top half was designed so it would balance on the handle or something. As it is, you need to lay it down while you dump out the repository. That bit could have been designed a bit more thoughtfully. But overall, this seems well-built. I have another burr grinder at home with plastic gears, and this one puts the plastic one to shame. It's surprisingly heavy and everything seems put together well. Aesthetically, it's also pleasing. I use a French press that makes 32 oz, and this fits just enough beans for that device.

Absolute Gem!
There’s just no way you can regret buying this. It’s an absolute dream of coffee hardware. No plastic, no loose parts. Grinding is smooth and seamless. It looks absolutely beautiful and the handle is stunning and utilitarian. The grinds it produces make for some absolutely delicious cups of coffee. Are there better grinders out there – sure, but you’ll pay at least double. My cups are beyond tasty. I will say, I would advise you to get the esp versions even for pour over, so you can dial in your v60 recipes for various beans. I had to buy a third party grinder wheel to make my beautiful white cs3 pro [which doesn’t come in the esp version] essentially an espresso grinder.

Works well and I love the folding handle, but does not disassemble for easy cleaning.
This grinder comes with a small cleaning brush and a little black storage bag. The white really pops, and looks nice. Build quality is top notch, and it works perfectly. I especially like the folding handle which is done very nicely with a spring loaded metal sleeve that's super easy to use and feels sturdy when locked or unlocked. Comparing this to a similar unit I use for spices my only complaint is that this one doesn't come apart, so it's a little harder to clean if you're using this for spices and not trying to cross contaminate. That said, if used just for coffee as it's designed, you really won't need to clean this. The top on this unit seems to hold securely in place vs just setting on top on another brand. I also prefer the adjustment being inside the device instead of on the outside for some models of grinders. It has a nice click system, and most people can probably just set this and leave it alone without worrying about accidentally changing the setting which can happen on the modes with external adjustments. Overall, very nice grinder!

A Pleasure To Own
There are certain things in life that, every time you walk past them or pick them up, just bring a little smile to your face. This precision manual coffee grinder is one of those things. I start every day with what I hope is a perfect cup of pour over dark roast coffee. I grind my beans fresh by hand, and the ritual of grinding is a big part of my experience. I step outside, look at the stars, thank God for a new day, and grind my beans. This grinder has increased my pleasure in the grinding experience. It's just that well made, and it's a joy to own and use. It allows me to dial in the exact coarseness I desire, and that works best for my preferred brewing method. It also is just the right size for taking on the road when I travel. The stainless steel conical burr is a precision instrument that's easy to adjust and easy to clean. It arrived well packaged in a nice box, suitable for gifting. It is well made of high-quality materials. I can't really think of anything I don't like about this grinder. Every coffee lover should have one. I highly recommend it.
