Sir Adrian Boult - Vaughan Williams: The Complete EMI Recordings

It is what it says...
Love Vaughan Williams and this IS a collection of Boult recordings - it isn't exhaustive and even can become repetitive; some gems, but you'll need to supplement it if you want the whole range of RVW's work

A lovely, clear, well recorded collection. But ...
A lovely, clear, well recorded collection. But if you put it in iTunes the Gracenote database is not consistent with the details of the CDs. Also, if you access the music via Apple TV the details are too long. So, being a pedant, I spent 90 minutes putting the details right.

Good intro to some less well known or played compositions
Enjoyed hearing pieces I wasn't familiar with, and some variants I was - especially some recorded 30 years apart.

17 hours,or thereabouts,of greatness.
At 82p a disc this is not worthy of even a second's hesitation...any lover of VW should purchase immediately.Yes,older remasters have been used, and the old Belart recordings are good, but really?Should anyone doubt the mastery of Boult in this material?Fascinating to compare differences,too...not always did Boult "go slow" in later recordings,as many assert...but don't take my word for it.See for yourselves, how a master conducts a master...I learned my VW from Boult,on EMI,and am sentimental, but no other will do for me,not quite. And so handy, all in one super bargain box...so,in summation,if you must have the latest sound, well it is your loss, but otherwise, buy this...Boult was, after all given the distinction of premiering 3 of the symphonies of RVW...and at .01 of a penny a minute...you see I have my calculator up...just enjoy it!
