Easy to apply and 100% blackout
I work nights and sleep during the day, so was looking for a solution to keep the bedroom dark. I find blackout blinds still let a lot of light in around the edges, but this amazing window film let's no light in at all! Really easy to apply - watch a few YouTube videos before you attempt this. I did both window panes in the photo in about 1 hour. The hardest part is cutting the edges - I tried a new blade in my Stanley knife but it was still not sharp enough. Next time I will buy a scalpel! I was worried about bodging it up and getting loads of air bubbles but this window film is very high quality and it it was easy to squeeze out the bubbles. Highly recommended. I have used cheaper film from ebay and it was a nightmare to apply, so for the sake of a few extra quid, buy some rabbitgoo!

It does have backing!
Excellent window film! One of the easiest one to apply - and I did quite a few! Despite some people suggesting there is no backing - THERE IS! Very thin, so a bit of a pain to peel it off, but otherwise it will never stick, not in a million year! Without the backing the film becomes pretty soft and very easy to apply. Once up it turn into a dark chocolate colour, which surprised me a bit. It blocks out a fair bit off the light, but not 100%, so on sunny days you can see without the light on, still works very well behind a normal blind/curtain. For those who are worried about air bubbles: don't! They will dry out and disappear in a couple of weeks. All in all good quality, thick window film - highly recommended!

Good blackout but too small.
This is the best blackout product I've found - miles better than blackout curtains or blinds. It doesn't give 100% blackout though. Although no light passes through the film, the biggest size available was still too small to cover my bedroom window pane in one piece, and my window isn't unusually big (95x112cm). I had to use 2 pieces. At first I tried abutting 2 pre-cut edges but this resulted in an obvious line of light along the join. Then I tried overlapping the 2 pieces - the film doesn't adhere to itself, so there is still a narrow line of light visible at the join, though less so than before. For the same reason, the film needs to overlap the rubber seal that goes around the edges of the window pane, but because the rubber seal is slightly curved the film can't sit flat at each corner so there is a small amount of light visible at each corner. This isn't the fault of the product, and once I close my blackout curtains I'm not aware of any light coming through the window pane even after my eyes have acclimatised to the dark, but it's something to be aware of if you don't have curtains or if you need 100% blackout. You could probably resolve this with gaffer tape, if you don't need your window to look pretty. It was slightly tricky to apply the film to the window. I used a sponge to apply the soapy water rather than a spray bottle, which worked fine, and a squeegee to get rid of the air bubbles. I thought I had done a good job until the next day when I saw the window from the outside and it was covered in a lot of very visible air bubbles (my window is on the 3rd floor and I could see it from ground level on the other side of the street). Even with the ceiling light on, the room had been too dim for me to see the bubbles from inside. I tried to squeegee them out but couldn't. It doesn't bother me enough that I want to take the film off and re-apply it, but it's probably a good idea to have someone help you apply it and to look at it from the outside before you finish.

Quick and Easy
I looked at all options available and this was by far the cheapest and Easiest. Take your time for neatness and you cant go wrong. Every other option I looked at needed cutting or custom making and far more costly. This stuff blocks out all light and goes on like a transfer, put on correctly it stays on and can be removed in seconds and re applied later. Ideal for me on the Roof lights in the Loft bedroom when Im on night shift.

Danger - caused my window to crack!
I have used window films for years, mainly the frosted type, so felt very comfortable purchasing this film for blackout. I read a lot of reviews, and saw a couple warning about cracks but then responses from the company said this was unlikely, not caused by the film and very rare. As there were only a few, along many positive reviews, I decided on balance it was likely to be fine. How wrong I was!I bought this early last summer as a temporary solution in my children’s bedroom to help with the light, as we didn’t have permanent blinds fitted yet having only recently moved in. The windows in the whole of the house are good quality and fairly recently installed, so they don’t have any issues. The window I put this on is north facing and there is another building several metres in front it, it mainly gets light in the evening as the sun is setting and is on the ‘cool’ side of the house. In terms of installation, I found it relatively straightforward and no more complicated than any other type of window film. Once up it gives a sort of orange glow effect, which I was fine with and wasn’t expecting complete darkness. However after a couple of days on the window, as I came home one morning I noticed an odd line in their window. I thought the film might have moved and creased somehow, so went to check it when I got in to rearrange it. It was no crease! There was a large crack running diagonally across the window, on the internal pane of glass that the film was applied to (double glazed), and the glass was really hot - unnaturally so. This was at about 9am when there isn’t even really any sunlight directly shining on that side of the house due to its position. I initially called the window fitters for advice and due to the pattern of the crack (the long diagonal crack, with no stray cracks or obvious ‘root’ or impact point), they couldn’t fathom how it had happened as it clearly wasn’t hit with something. I asked whether it could be caused through some form of overheating and they said it could happen, but that they were surprised as the windows shouldn’t get that hot - to which I explained, I had applied this film and the glass was unnaturally hot when I found the crack. So I have since put off several people from trying blackout film! Obviously I had to pay out for a whole new window, and particularly concerning given this was in my children’s bedroom and occurred so quickly.I didn’t bother getting in touch at the time as I had plenty else to occupy myself with and just wanted it fixed, but am now looking for a temporary blackout solution (for a different purpose, the type where you use hooks, Velcro or suction cups to hang) and this came up high on the list of recommendations, so I felt that I should add I have also had this problem and I don’t think it’s as ‘rare’ as claimed. I can’t find my original photos of the cracked window unfortunately, only the ‘after’ photo following the fitting, otherwise I would have added it.

Macht was es soll

Geht so

blickdicht, lichtdicht, verdunkelt total - super
