Q: do not these work on anything that takes D batteries?

No, some very simple devices assume the battery to have some internal resistance. Such devices will draw too much current from this battery and it will drain quickly. Could be hazardous. My "Mr Beams" motion sensor sadly does not work with these batteries. I'd be very happy if someone would make rechargeables with some R built in

Q: Will these be safe for the maglite ml 300l?

I would assume so. I use them in place of regular D batteries . They hold a charge for a long time.

Q: What is the voltage output? The ad says 1.5volts. Litiums usually are 1.2volts. How can this be? Customers are not getting 9V from the six pack.
