Printed by Amazon
It’s a good story, but beware you may end up with a copy printed by Amazon, with the characteristic cheap feel to it.

Great entertainment
Picked this up in a cheap book sale years ago and over the years have read it quite a few times. I have been meaning to give it to a charity shop many times, but every time decided to read it before I did so. I now have the Kindle version as well so I can finally give it away. Easy read, interesting and perfect length for a long flight, a cold evening or a day on the beach. It made me read the rest of the Pendergast series, though this -with Reliquary and Cabinet of Curiosities- is by far the best. Some great characters are introduced in Relic that seem to lose their interesting charms as the series progresses. More and more midlife crises and angst is leaving me less and less captivated as time goes on.

Middle quality monster horror
If you can ignore the ludicrous pseudo science, it's not a bad example of the cryptozoology horror story. The action is good but most of the characters struggle to reach even two dimensionality. Too many cliché ridden characters to make it possible to care about anyone (least of all the series lead).

Excellent read, this is a superb book series 5 *****
Totally loved this book. I'd already read some other books from these authors & was enthralled by them so it was an easy decision to download Relic the first of the Pendergast series.Who doesn't love a great lead character? Special Agent Pendergast is so unusually curious and his knowledge seems endless. He has a great way of making people do what he wants & allowing them to believe it was their own idea. He's always under control, very cool, calm & collected. This is a story of fiction & it's great to be able to enjoy it as such but let's not kid ourselves it is not beyond the realms of science for this to actually happen for real. Who knows what creatures have still to be discovered.Allow yourself to be entertained, I'm off to get the next book in the series. If however you don't have time to read all the books in the Pendergast series then my advice would be not to miss"Still Life With Crows" and "White Fire" you will not be disappointed.

Gripping and atmospheric
I picked up this book because it was recommended by Cal Newport. The story starts with brutal murders in the Museum of Natural History just a few days before their new exhibition on superstition is about to open. Rumours are spreading around the museum’s employees that the murders are linked to a curse tied to an ill-fated expedition. Or, perhaps, the murders can be explained by a freak mutation that created a supreme predator, as one of the eminent professors beliefs. A ragtag team of sceptical museum staff and the ominous agent Pendergast begin to investigate. The book definitely falls in the guilty pleasure category. It was gripping and atmospheric from the start. The authors also clearly did a lot of research to make the scientific and historical background at least partially believable. The writing was sometimes a bit clumsy. There is no risk of mistaking this book for high literature. However, I was entertained throughout and looked forward to reading it. I think it’s perfect for people who enjoy science fiction a la Jurassic Park or adventure stories like Indiana Jones.

Gripping and original
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, first of all that the story was set in New Yorks Natural History museum providing an atmospheric backdrop for the story and supplying the reader with interesting facts about the place. I found the authors kept up a pace and held this reader's attention throughout, the characters were believable even when what was happening around them was rather unique and there were plenty moments when I was on the edge of my seat. I thought this was a great introduction to the Agent Pendergast character who I liked immediately and I am already reading the next book in the series and I recommend this book to those who enjoy intelligent and well thought out thriller/mystery novels with intriguing, yet believable characters.

Relic introduces Agent Pendergast
I read this book because I love the film, Relic. The film is dark and creepy with some good characterisation. The book is the first in a series of novels that feature Agent Pendergast - an extraordinary man who is an intellect, a philanthropist, and a detective whose speciality is unusual and prolific serial murderers. This mystery thriller is complex and fascinating which has, clearly, been researched thoroughly. The authors take care to explain the arcane and archaic details which underpin the mystery without being patronising. I love novels which educate me as well as take me through a fascinating story. This is one of those. And, it was a joy to find that this is the first in series of novels which feature Agent Pendergast.

A Great Adventure Story
I have read this numerous times and it never fails to be a most exciting read, with this the first time I am reading it on my Kindle. Two masters of the written word spinning a fantastic tale of beasts, things that go bump in the night and the brave people who face it. And who doesn't love a museum story? The atmosphere in here is just perfect, dark and creepy. And you never know for certain exactly when the beast will jump out and grab someone. You only know for certain that it will - but who will it take? There are some truly frightening moments in here, with characters running blindly in the dark for their lives. The tension is high. It's like something told around a campfire, those scary ones that make you jump and look behind yourself to make certain its only a story. I think it goes back to our roots, of us being hunted by a smart predator who knows exactly what it's doing and has excellent natural weapons to attack. And this thing is not easy to catch or kill, even for the FBI. The FBI after all is meant to deal with human criminals not a supernatural creature - its a bit out of their experience. But I also love the characters in here. Once you start reading they seem like old friends. Margo who tries hard to do the right thing and finds herself caught up in this huge mess at her museum, Pendergast who is smart but has others getting in his way, Smithback who is chasing news for his book, Lt D'Agosta the police officer trying to save lives.... Then of course are the other characters, the ones you definitely don't like. And as I was reading I just knew they were going to run into huge issues. And of course they did. Because they were refusing to listen! And then chaos comes and bites them one... Its all quite exciting.. A mix of ancient history, science and big scares; jungles and museums and secret tunnels deep underground. and the worse definitely happens: its the perfect adventure story. And I must say the story definitely ends with a huge twist! Its been long enough since I read this that I really didn't remember the end. And that certainly made it way more fun. Plus the fun will continue in the next book. But these two never displeased me with their stories.

"What we have here is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma."
The story begins with an expedition in the Amazon rainforest that discovers mysterious artifacts. Fast forward to New York City, where a series of gruesome murders occur at the Museum of Natural History just days before a major exhibition is set to open. The murders appear to be connected to the artifacts brought back from the Amazon. FBI special agent Pendergast must find out who or what is behind the killing before time runs out.Overall, Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child is a captivating and thrilling read that successfully merges horror, science fiction, and mystery.
