Why is it there?** A: It’s the crap that’s in your drinking water when it comes out of faucet. This is why I distill water. I can’t think about drinking it and it’s not what I would call .... good for me....it often stinks as well. You’ll be healthier now Driver’s king pure clean clear water. I have used distillers for 30 years. **Q: Is the condenser stainless steel? Are all parts that come in contact with the heated water stainless steel?** A: On my unit, yes, everything that comes into contact with the water is stainless steel. You still have to run distilled white vinegar through it the first time to clean the coil. I also filter all of the distilled I intend to drink through a Britta pitcher to improve the flavor. This step isn't necessary for use in car batteries or steam irons, or coffee makers. **Q: How do you fill it with water? Is there a reservoir that you put under the faucet to fill it with water?** A: The top comes off and you fill to the fill line stamped in the metal. I fill mine 1/4" more than fill line and leave top off until it reaches the fill line. I also leave out the charcoal pouch it comes with. The charcoal kept leaving a bad taste so I looked up why it's there and it's for chlorine so overfilling and boiling off a 1/4" of the water before putting the lid back on gets rid of the chlorine and makes great tasting water. Also tested with kilowatt meter and costs about 30 cents a gallon electric to operate so doesn't cost alot for something that runs for 4 or 5 hours. Love mine and feel so much better drinking only distilled water. **Q: Do I need to use the charcoal filter if I'm only using the distilled water for plants?** A: The charcoal packet is only for water odors and/or taste issues. We are on a well and have no odor/taste issues, so I don't ever use the activated charcoal packets. I absolutely love my choice of this item and the efficiency of the machine. I didn't really know anything about distilling my own water and watched several videos to learn and I actually utilize my distiller in my living room as it helps to heat up my apartment. I'm totally satisfied with my choice of this product and grateful for my purchase. It's very easy to set up and use. It's easy to pull the top portion off to refill again. Just give it several minutes if you're distilling another gallon back to back, because of the steam. (Unplug the top portions cord first) You can make several batches throughout the day, as long as you have containers to put the distilled water in. Just make sure you put it back while you're over the bottom tank and you won't have drips on the outside of the machine. I'm totally satisfied and you will be too.
