great way for kids to learn history about event!
This book is a child-friendly, age appropriate version for an notable weather event that hit the Midwest long ago. A back page that eludes to more of the harsh facts is in the back, but can easily be avoided for younger children. The prose does a nice job of focusing on the heroism, rather than the negative aspects and aftermath of the storm.

Good children's book
I wasn't sure about what to expect when I ordered the book. We had just gone thru a large snow when I heard about the book. It is a child's book which I hadn't expected but I thouroughly enjoyed it and have passed in on to several age appropriate kids and they enjoyed it.

A Beginning History
I originally borrowed this book from the library and read it to my six year-old grandson. He liked it so much that I bought him his own copy. It's an historical account of a deadly blizzard that occurred in 1888. The book has furthered his interest in history so that's a great plus. The illustrations are also very appealing.

Fantastic Adult version ~
if you want to read the definitive adult book about this incredible storm I highly recommend "The Children's Blizzard" by David Laskin. Hard to put down and mixes the tragic stories along with a factual timeline and background
