Inspirings gardens
Very large book. Excellent gardens chosen. Beautiful photography. Many are large estates but all have great ideas for any gardener. A "Coffee Table" book for sure, but deserve intense scrutiny.

A gem of a garden book!
As a landscape architect I pretty much buy every book on the subject that comes off the press. The Private Gardens of the Bay Area is a gem. The writing, photography, and selection of featured gardens are all incredibly inspiring.

What a wonderful book! Well-written and with beautiful photos showing the gardens in the larger landscape of the Bay Area. The quality and production values of the book are great, too.

Not great production value.
Lost opportunity for being a great book due to poor production value and presentation. Seems somewhat cheap for this type of book.

A must have for anyone who loves gardens
This is a fine addition to Lowry and Berner's growing collection of well written and beautifully photographed books on gardens in New York City, New Jersey, and the Hudson Valley (all worth adding to your library!). The gardens featured are unusual, inventive, and exquisite, and the text that accompanies them incisively explains the many environmental challenges facing California gardeners. A great gift for anyone who gardens, or just enjoys armchair travel to beautiful places.
