Oxford Japanese Grammar And Verbs

If you want to know Japanese grammar, get it!
Great little book. As a background, my baseline of Japanese knowledge before reading this book was around 3000 kanji and a couple key phrases. I wanted to know how to fit it all together to be able to form and read complete sentences rather than just words. This certainly helped with that! It's a lot of info, but totally worth it if you're serious about learning.Verbs are just one section covered in detail. It also covers conjunctions, particles, adjectives and adverbs, styles of speech, comparative statements (more than, less than, etc.), pronouns, and more. I think there are a few occasional errors, but if you have a knowledge of kana you should spot them with ease, it's just the occasional typo between the romaji and kana versions of each phrase where there might seem to be a syllable missing. I'd still give it 5 stars!Just to clarify, this book is NOT a comprehensive list of verbs of vocab. It is many examples of different types of conjugations so that you know the patterns, which are explained in detail with lots of relevant examples. It also gives the polite versions of some verbs which are heard perhaps more than the dictionary versions, which is super useful. I'm sure there will be lots of "OH!" moments of realisation while reading this book, there certainly was for me. Due to the nature of learning a language, obviously the examples covered at the start of the book will use grammar from later in the book, which can be intimidating, but I would suggest reading it with a clear mind then reading it again and again, making notes to hammer all points home.

It's a very useful book.
My first impression when this arrived was, "oh it's a bit small, should be called a pocket edition." Upon flicking through the pages, I noticed some of the tables of verb types, and usage examples. "Those could be useful," I thought. Subsequent dips into other chapters ( that seems to be the way I am approaching this book,) have revealed very helpful usages of nouns, and natural sounding sentence structures, that I have never found from other sources. I am very pleased with this book. とても有用の本です。

Compact and useful
Really small so it can be easily carried about; the grammar is very useful and quite in depth. Has 75 pages of verb knowledge (stems, forms, usage etc.), and other really useful grammar points throughout the book. However, bit let down that the cover pages were bent at the corners but that personally doesn’t disappoint me too much as I will use this book a lot anyways, so it’s bound to get damaged anyways. Would recommend for any Japanese learner, especially due to the really cheap price.

Awesome
This book cost me about £2. I originally thought it would be a bit lacking but it has pretty much everything there. Its quick and easy to learn from, I find it better than the text books like Genki as they end up boring me to death. For £2 this has to be the best value Japanese learning resource I have paid for. There are some good learning resources out there which are free such as Tae Kim's guide but I wanted a physically printed book and this was cheaper than Tae Kim's.

Still use it
I bought this book so I could learn all Japanese verbs but I was wrong. So this was not something I was looking for. But, when I did start reading this book it helped me majorly to understand Japanese grammar and verbs so that's why I didn't return it and gave it full 5 stars! I would definitely recommend this book to all who want to learn and understand Japanese better. This book is written in hiragana, katakana, kanji, romanji and translated in english well.

Comprehensive but compact
A very small volume (18x11x1.5cm), and very light but manages to pack a lot of grammar into its 273 pages. Ideal for the beginner and as a grammar book for travelling; it's not going to take up much space in your suitcase.

Cheap Quality
Useful but poor quality. The words look like they've been printed on twice, making them blurry and the paper is a cheap poor quality, which I've not seen used in Oxford books before.

Either used or old.
Quality is like used some Kanji you can't read because they are written smudged. 🙅♂️ Not for beginners.

Great book for Japanese learning
I purchased this book about six month ago, and almost finished it. This book has helped me a lot in learning Japanese language. It won't confuse me on the different forms of verbs. Now, I use it as a reference whenever I have problems in verb forms.Highly recommend it for people in learning Japanese.

Must buy product if you're learning japanese.
This is a must buy product for learning japanese if you are in india.Although you should be able to read hiragana, katakana and basic kanji to understand this book. But don't worry if you don't know them at all. Romaji is given under every example sentence.Best of luck in your japanese journey.
