Text is gray and blurry
This review has nothing to do with the contents of the book itself, but rather the print quality. The print quality of this book is so unbelievably awful, I wonder if it’s somehow counterfeit. The text is pixelated and gray, with shadowy boxes around it. So the entire book has a fuzzy appearance. It looks as if it was scanned and printed, or photocopied. I cannot rate the contents of this book since the text is basically not legible. This is most unfortunate as I was looking forward to diving into this book, but with 400 pages of small print that is pixelated and gray, I don’t think that’s going to happen. I have been purchasing items from Amazon consistently for the past 10 years, and I don’t believe I have ever left a negative review on anything. So that should speak for itself as to how poor of quality this book’s print is. I may try exchanging it, or may attempt to reach out to the publisher directly. I will update this review if I’m able to obtain a higher quality copy.

A must have!
As an aspiring interpreter, still in college, I am learning so much about ethical behaviour in the profession. This book lays out so many different scenarios, which have actually happened to interpreters in the field, and gives you the opportunity to apply critical thinking in order to understand the most ethical way to handle each situation. We used it in one class, but I continue to use it as I gain Practicum experience in the field. There are also areas in the book that give the perspective of a working interpreter, a Deaf consumer, and helps to open up the mindset and think of things in a different way. Definitely a must have for any aspiring interpreter, or working interpreter looking to broaden their scope in the field.

001 Interpreting Scenarios for one of my college classes and I enjoyed it immensely
I had to read Encounters with Reality: 1,001 Interpreting Scenarios for one of my college classes and I enjoyed it immensely. As the title suggests, the book contains 1001 Interpreting Scenarios. These are all things that have happened to real interpreters. Many of the scenarios just state what happened, giving you to opportunity to put thought into how you would respond in a similar situation. There are also a lot of scenarios that have both interpreter's and deaf people's opinion on how the situation should be handled. It was interesting to read the two points of view. In class we would pick a scenario and then discuss how it should be/ or should have been handled.

This is probably my favorite book I've ever had to buy and read for ...
This is probably my favorite book I've ever had to buy and read for school. I love how it provides real-life scenarios that took place in the interpreting world. You never know what to expect as an interpreter, and this book certainly proves that! It has stories that just make you shake your head and wish you could've witnessed it with your own two eyes. Some are funny, some are happy, and some just make you wonder. It really is a great read. It provides great perspective on what the career of an interpreter can entail.

Wish there were more "answers"
This is a great book with so many different scenarios that really make you think. I honestly was a little disappointed that only 100 of the 1001 scenarios had the perspectives of a Deaf consumer and an interpreter as to how to respond. The rest are just scenarios that make you think. Yes, it's great to think and ponder, but I'd really appreciate more insight on how a professional interpreter would respond and how a Deaf consumer would prefer a professional interpreter to respond. A great read nonetheless and really gets you thinking.

By the cover it might look like the average boring college textbook
This is a must read for any interpreter or interpreting student because it has real life scenarios for you to learn from. By the cover it might look like the average boring college textbook, but do not be fooled. It is very well written and broken up beautifully. Some scenarios may even have you laughing due to the uniqueness of the situation. By the end of this book I could clearly identify the problem in the situation and formulation my own solution.

It helps you make good and ethical decisions
This book is a must read for aspiring interpreters, an even already working interpreters! It gives you so many different scenarios to get your mind thinking about what you would do in a given situation (that have happened to people in real life)! It helps you make good and ethical decisions. I highly recommend this book!
