Wheelchair Brake Handle Extensions - Pair (6.7 Inch)

These have been a Godsend! My 44 year old daughter has MS, it was hard to lock and unlock wheels for her but also for me when folding the chair to lift in the car. These are perfect height, adding just the right amount of length to make locking and unlocking brakes a breeze, and that they attach by a cord, if they fall off being folded and lifted into the car, they're still attached to place back on brake handle! Great purchase!!!

My mom often didn't lock the wheelchair brakes because she has old injuries in her wrists and it was too hard. A therapist told us to order these. When they arrived, I laughed because they kind of look like, well, you have eyes. There is no hardware, you just shove them onto the brake bar and believe it or not, they stay! And that added length is the magic...it provides leverage and makes it so easy to lock the brakes! I could not believe something so cheap, and bizarre looking, could actually make life so much easier. It's the little things...really amazing product.

We borrowed a wheelchair from the senior center, and one of the brakes was so stubborn and required a two handed push to get it to lock. The physical therapist recommended this product, and it’s a total game changer! I had to pull off the tops of the old brakes, which was easy, and just slide these on. It’s now so very user friendly and locks/unlocks with total ease.

I had lost the rubbery cover on one of my wheelchair's brakes. I was looking for a replacement when I saw this item. I never did find the right one to replace my lost cover, so I ordered these because I knew having a longer handle would make it easier for me to reach the brakes. They fit the existing handle, and work very well from the standpoint of it now is indeed easier for me to reach them. My only issue with them is the cord. I've looped it so that when they do slide off, it is still attached to the frame of the chair. I would much rather have a way that actually secures it to the handle. Moving the folded chair in and out of the back of the car is how I lost the original handle cover, and this has been pulled of the brake handle several times while making that transition. I am grateful though that the cord keeps it from being dropped so I haven't lost either of them.

My mother struggled with the brakes on her chair, but has no difficult with these. Some folks complain about the extensions increasing the overall width of their chairs. That wasn't the case for us, so it depends entirely on the angle of the brake handles on your particular chair. Installation was trivial. I did have to remove the old rubber handle covers first - they came off with just a little working. I wound the elastic band around the spacer on the brake shaft until I could just slip the extender through the loop, and then slipped it over the end of the original handle. The elastic bands will work well to keep them from being lost when the chair is folded and transported.
