A lovely book covering stumpwork and some goldwork.
This is a beautiful book, with good colourful pictures and full instructions of the many designs. The book would be a great asset for anyone wishing to tackle this form of stitch craft and cannot be recommended highly enough. The author is Jane Nicholas who has also written many other books on similar styles of embroidery. She is very accomplished in her art and every item is beautifully finished.

Inspiring!
I have bought many, many books from Amazon as my bank account will testify and I have never written a review. This book only arrived 2 days ago and I feel compelled to recommend it to anyone who is interested in embroidery. I have never done stumpwork or goldwork before. My experience of freehand embroidery as opposed to counted thread work is limited to some Helen M. Stevens designs but I feel that with the detailed instructions in this book I could easily take on any of the tasks in the book. The illustrations are so clear and detailed that I don't feel too daunted to take up a new challenge. If I have a regret it is only that I don't know how I'm going to get my knitting finished as it will be abandoned just as soon as the kit for the Tulip Needlecase design has arrived from Australia!!

makes you want to get started
Three-dimensional embroidery seems to be enjoying a revival. This book has designs inspired by Turkish, Syrian and Persian tiles - a theme close to my own heart. In this book Jane says she has followed a passion from childhood to combine jewel-like colours, gold metallic threads and glittering beads. The projects in this book are wonderful - I love the tulip book cover and the tulip needlebook. The layout of the book is uncluttered - thank you Milner Publishing - I am heartily sick of reading craft books where everything is squashed in and often difficult to read. The instructions are detailed with wonderful photography. There's plenty of information on how to do stumpwork including a stitchery and information on wire, fusible web, finishing and more. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

Stunning and Inspiring
The book came within a week and I was very impressed with the contents. The designs are beautiful and I am planning to do a few of them. The instructions are clear for each design. The problem is which one to do first!

Some Lovely Ideas
I was really attracted to the title of this book. I have a real interest in embroidery and wanted to experiment with stumpwork. Alas, I did not really study the title which tells me that this is work inspired by Turkish, Syrian and Persian tiles. I cannot fault the standard of photographs or the explanations which go with each section. There are some good ideas to inspire but if you are a complete beginner or looking for an indepth study of stumpwork, then this is probably not the book for you.
