Something like this comes in very handy when your old PC will not boot up any longer. Use this and you can pick your pictures and other items off your hard drive, then put them on another PC.

Worth every penny. Had about 6 old laptops I took hard drives out of. Downloaded information off all. Easy to use.

I changed my review from 1 to 4 stars for now...as I finally got it to working again. Did nothing different...just plugged it in again and it started working. Will leave the review at 4 stars to see if it continues working and doesn't have an intermittent problem. Worked great the first two times I used it. Then today...I hooked it up and it would not power up. The power supply seems to be fine, I checked it with a volt meter. But the device will not power up at all. Even tried it with a known good power supply of the same voltage and polarity and still nothing. Total waste of money to be able to use it twice.

It worked for a couple of months but then died

My computer suddenly died and I purchased a new one but needed the files on the old hard drive. I used one of these 10 years ago but gave it away to someone who needed it so I bought this one. It allowed me to save all of my files, contacts, games and so on. It is simple to install and even a novice can use it. I took the old hard drive out of the computer and attached it and everything was there. This is a must have device. It is solid, easy to use and is compact. Can't say enough good things about it.

This arrived dead out of the box. The power supply plug had a light on it that did light up, but none of the three lights on the unit itself ever did. Despite repeated attempts, disconnects and reconnects, etc. To be clear, this review is specific to the one unit that was delivered. It was non-functional, so it has to get the lowest rating. I'm open to the possibility that this was a rare occurrence and that a replacement would have worked. However due to a relatively urgent need to start using an old internal blu ray drive with my newly rebuilt PC that does not have external drive bays, I did not have time to muck around with a return/replacement situation. I needed to be working faster and did not feel like risking what might be a bad batch of units or even just the inherent extra delay involved. Instead I just returned this and ordered a nearly identical device that had already made my "final two" when selecting this one. It had same day delivery, thus avoiding any turnaround delay. As it turns out, it arrived on time and working, and by that evening I was up and running.
