Four Stars, use CAT5 only
Works better than i expected. The smaller box gets pretty hot but that hasnt caused a problem yet.Update: First the product has been running for several months without an issue. I bought another set and attempted a 200 ft run and figured I would use the best cable available so I purchased a CAT6 shielded cable. Well that actually didn't work. I contacted StarTech via chat and was on the line with an agent in probably 2 minutes or less and they had an immediate answer: Use CAT5. Higher rated cable such as CAT6 or CAT7 have tighter twisted wire so the overall length of the actual copper is much longer than a CAT5 wire. I purchased a high quality CAT5 cable and everything worked as planned.

Great, but with one flaw
I would like to give this product a 5. It actually works and is cheaper than other options. The casing is metal and it feels well designed. The fact that it can run HDMI and power for the other box over the cat5 cable is awesome. However, it has a heat problem. It gets hot after a day of use. When it overheats you have to unplug it for a few hours and wait for it to cool down. Its not something one could use constantly. it it was I'd give it a 5.

Works fine, until it dies.
I purchased one of these late last year and it worked as it stated for about two months. Then one day, it just quit. I figured it was just a defective unit and that was that. Since the product line we were using this for was going away, I did not see the need to purchase another one. That was, until I needed another one for a different area of our facility. I purchased another one and it worked as it should for about 2-3 months, then it just quit. This unit was in a climate controlled area (70 - 75 degrees F), but I noticed it would get fairly warm (borderline hot). I only noticed this because I had this attached to the backside of a PC monitor that would need to be turned a different direction from time to time. When the monitor was turned, the monitor would frequently lose the video signal from the device. I figured it was a loose HDMI port connection. So I would hold the device and I would slightly move the HDMI cable until the signal came back. That's when I noticed it would almost always be very warm to the touch.Long-story-short...it works until it dies, which may not be very long. $155 for something that only lasts a few months is not acceptable.

I had a problem, the unit didn't seem to be working. I talked to tech and he had me look at a couple of things. After trying a different cat5 cable it worked fine. Found the cable I had was hooked to old standards, after changing them everything works fine. The next day the tech called back to help me with the problem. I told him what I found and thanked him for the call back. This company is right there help, not always do you find this kind of help.I'm using this unit using about 150 foot of cat5e cable and it works great..

Beautiful 4K
I received this system yesterday and I’m very happy with it. I installed it in minutes using a dedicated 100’ CAT6 run between my media closet (Audio/Video Receiver) and TV. The best part - beautiful 4K! While the description here doesn’t say it, these support 4K up to 130’ (per the manufacturer's WEB site).UPDATE: I've been running these for four months now and have had zero issues at all resolutions, including 4K.

So far so good with this product
So far so good with this product. Installed it about 2 months ago for a client and it's been working fine with high resolution and no signal problems.

Great Product
These do what they say they will and are wonderful as you don't need to power the receiver. We've purchased over 100 of them for installation in our client's offices and we've never had one break.

(I thought that was pretty good support
Bought this extender to send a Sky HD HDMI signal 35m into another room.Contacted Startech support beforehand regarding compatibility with a Skybox. They’re in Canada and, without actual hands-on experience with UK Sky boxes had to say they could not definitively say it was compatible. However, they went the extra mile and contacted UK users with the same question. Their users came back reporting use with Sky boxes without problems. (I thought that was pretty good support!)Anyway, the units seem well made and robust. Sensibly packaged with all the accessories you may require. They’re easy to install (for a ‘none-techie’ like me) and they work. Do just what I wanted them to, sending the Sky HDMI signal 35m to a TV (picture and sound), just like it was a standard HDMI cable and, importantly, without interfering with anything else. (I’d had problems with a different extender interfering with the RF TV control, I’ve experienced no such problems with this extender.)

Good product, poor documentation
Takes some time (under 30 secs) to handshake (but may be HDMI issue). Also sometimes loses handshake if a light is switched on/off. However the instructions are lacking...no details on how to attach the included mounting brackets, and also how you should attach or when it is needed to attach the included grounding cables.

It's never worked properly
We've had Geek Squad techs in at least four times (I think 5) and it works for about a day and then we are fiddling with it to get our TV and speakers to start. I threw away the box it came in, otherwise I would have returned it. It has been a waste of $300. We're giving up on all of our wonderful speakers and buying a sound box - Geek Squad is coming out again on Tuesday to set that up. Anyone want this lousy product?

It worked fine for sending 1080p if that's what you want it ...
I tried to use this to route an XBOX ONE X signal to a 4k Acer Projector. It didn't work whatsoever in 4k 60hz 4:4:4. It worked fine for sending 1080p if that's what you want it for.
