Is this light really dimmable? Or just low and high?

It says "control: remote." It turns on with a remote? But there's no remote included? I don't understand.

There is not a remote. Only a knob on the base of the mounting plate.

Is the base black or brown?

It’s black. I love lamp, with the exception of one thing. The USB port broke within a week. 😞

Is the usb port apple compatible?

Well. It’s a USB port. You can plug your own apple compatible connection to your phone, and the other end in the USB port in the lamp. That’s how we use it and works well with our apple devices.
