Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough: A Practical Guide to Nine Biblical Fasts

The purpose of spiritual fasting
This book is arranged so you can use it as needed. If you want to learn about the different fasts in the Bible (like a bible study), or if you just want to focus on one specific fast you don't have to read the whole book first. This book is about the fasts of the Bible (the purpose & goal of the fast) not how to fast 9 different ways. I found this book very enlightening on my spiritual journey especially in expounding on MY purpose in fasting.

Easy read!
Great read as I was new to BIBLICAL fasting. Backed up with scripture from front to back including a background for each kind of fast. Impressed with easy to follow outline as I take notes when reading to find important facts and scriptures for for bible studies and teaching. Wonderful book for all ages.

Fasting is about humility not spiritual pride.
Our pastor has been having us fast for the first 3 weeks in January for several years. I felt I needed more information about fasting and how to do one that would honor God. Dr. Towns book has been so helpful in this regard!! So helpful and informative and inspiring.

Superficial, repetitive, incorrect, poor biblical exegesis
This is a really bad book. I truly cannot understand the other reviews (which were a reference to me when I decided to buy this item). The truth is that this book is absolutely superficial, and repetitive. It is amazing the quantity of times that it repeats the same ideas over and over again. It gives you the feeling that the author was trying to fill more characters, much like a high schooler on a homework essay, and honestly, the intellectual level isn’t much higher than that either.I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. Specially in such an interesting subject as fasting, where there are far better books (such as Arthur Wallis’ God’s chosen fast). In fact I do an unjust to wallis even to compare his book with this one.Such a superficial bible exegesis I haven’t seen in a long time.If you are experienced in the subject, then this book will add nothing to your knowledge. If you are new to the subject, this book will only mislead you. Specially by all this idea that you fast for something for yourself. Sounds like such a boarderline new age idea! And absolutely incorrect! God is not concern only with what we do, but why we do it: “behold in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure” (Isaiah 58:3).So if you fast for selfish gifts, guess what, you might find only shame. On the opposite if you fast for God, as an act of humility and love towards God, then, as a by product, God is so kind and merciful that He is graciously pleased to reward us in blessings. But this is not what this superficial book teaches. And I read it all because I wanted to be fair... but terrible all the way. I would send it back if I could: worst money ever spent. Avoid.!
