Deservedly successful in its time, this film still holds up well, with the benefit of well-cast leads, greatlocations from another age and an ageless theme of royalty and commoner forming an alliance thatleaves them both richer - and us to leave them with a smile on our faces. Director, William Wyler, whoseepic "Ben Hur" is perhaps his most significant cinematice achievement, despite Oscars for previous films,clearly enjoyed this chance at a romantic comedy, and his bankable star Gregory Peck is a generous foilfor the persence of Audrey Hepburn, making a full Hollywood film debut that catured an Oscar of her own.

I really enjoyed watching this film. A lovely story and great acting. Would recommend most definitely.

The film itself is quite well known for its two famous stars, Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. The 4K transfer gives it a clear and crisp image which adds to the enjoyment of the film. The plot itself is not that memorable hence only 4 stars.

They do not make these movies anymore. This is a timeless masterpiece that you can see over and over again, and laugh and enjoy at each time; and suffer too - the very last shot of the movie, with Gregory Peck walking towards the exit of the embassy and after the press conference, is one of the most romantic and saddest moments in cinema, at par with Casablanca. You can almost hear Gregory Peck thinking "we will always have Rome".Everything in this movie is pitch perfect: the direction of Wyler, the flawless trio of characters talking and moving around the streets of Rome with utter grace, the Italians picture as joyful people but never falling for the easy caricature and last but not least, holding the whole thing, the exemplar fairy tale devised by Dalton Trumbo.Buy this movie and watch it every now and then. They do not make them anymore.

I can't count the number of times I have seen this film since I was a young girl, but each time it is as fresh as the first. Audrey is simply stunning and Gregory Peck not only looks gorgeous but acts the part so well. The views of Rome, which I have fallen in love with in recent years, looks fabulous and the whole film is a joy. Even though I know the ending off by heart, I still cry at the princess's press conference when she meets again the men who "almost" betrayed her. Like thousands before me, I have had my photograph taken with my hand in The Mouth of Truth, reminding me of one of the loveliest scenes with Hepburn and Peck. One of the best films I have ever seen!

I vaguely remembered watching "Roman Holiday" many, many years ago, but other than a few iconic images could not really remember the detail of the film. Having just watched it again, I am reminded of just what a good film this is and am pleasantly surprised at how it has stood the passage of time - many films of that era feel very old fashioned when watched again now. True, Gregory Peck can be a bit wooden, but Audrey Hepburn (who won an Oscar for her role) is fantastic in this film, the film being a simple romantic comedy set in Rome. I won't spoil the ending by describing it, other than to say it fitted the storyline perfectly for me, but wasn't at all what the person I watched with was expecting.

This privileged young lady got to escape her controlled life to enjoy freedom in 1950's Rome for just a few hours. Finding friendship and romance, but will it last?Wisely shot in black & white to allow the story and characters to get the focus, not the city of Rome, William Wyler directed a gem. Enjoy!

Für mich ein wunderschöner Film mit zwei der besten Schauspieler - Audrey Hepburn und Gregory Peck. Hepburn glänzte auch in Sabrina und das Leben einer Nonne. Auch Gregory Peck ein grandioser Schauspieler - auch in Weites Land oder Abrechnung in Gun Hill. Ein Film der rührt, ein Märchen, aber wer wünscht sich das nicht - die große Liebe.. man möchte einmal in diese Filme schlüpfen. Die großen Hollywoodstars- sie gibt es nicht mehr in dieser Form.

Loved this black and white movie so very much. Recommended to watch

Une bouffée de fraicheur face à cette histoire qui revêt une apparence de légèreté romantique. Le jeu des acteur est simple et juste, sans fioritures ni effets spéciaux, à l'image d'un autre temps du cinéma. J'ai été très touchée par cette histoire d'amour impossible esquissée avec finesse. Le profil des personnages principaux est tissé tout en sensibilité. Touche d'évasion également à travers l'accent italien et les images de Rome, de vrais "vacances romaines" à s'offrir l'espace de deux heures.

Fregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn were excellent in their roles, and Hepburn deserved her oscar for her thoroughly convincing prtrayal of a princess.No car chases, no swearing, no sex scenes, just a thoroughly enjoyable film with an excellent locale.
