How large is the opening on the 16 x 18?

The opening for our 16"x18" Plastic Urn is 14". Thank you for your inquiry

Is the gray color a light gray or more of a charcoal grey?

This urn is a medium gray. It is not light but not considered a charcoal color. Hope this helps.

Can this be used to hold a plant already in a pot?

Yes, it can. Not a large plant, but definitely a medium size one.

Hi Kathy - the top of the urn is one solid piece so it should hold water just fine!
