This mount works like a champ!!!
I’ve got a 01 TJ with 33 12.5 X 15s on it. The previous owner ran with the stock mount and an extended plate adapter, as well as an extended bolts and spacers for the third light to be visible over the spare. I ran with this set up for about 3 years in urban, suburban, and off-roading situations until the metal of the original mount was starting to shear off at the extension plate. Not only was this going to cause catastrophic failure but having a 33 fall off and bounce down the highway into some poor old grandmas windshield was not a comforting thought. I took off the spare and got this and I couldn’t have asked for a better mount.Pros:-Easy to install (You don’t need new hardware, just use the original bolts from the mounting plate unless they are rusted or damaged, then get some new ones.)- Sturdy construction. This thing looks like it can take a beating, plus the metal is covered with a textured surface- Didn’t need the extended bolts and spacers for the third brake light to clear the tire.- Looks Great…- Easily accepts my 33s without problem.- Total install time including tailgate cleaning before remounting about 1 hour and 10 min.CONS:-Pictures in the instructions were grainy and sometimes hard to see what was being done.-Should have done this long ago…I’ve ridden with this now for over 5,000 miles since installation over light off-road trails, suburban and heavily pothole laden urban landscapes. This mount is great. No squeaks, no groans, no bouncing spare tire in my rearview. My only concern is what will a heavy mount and a heavy tire do to my tailgate, but only time will tell. For now there has been NO difference in my tailgate at all, and for that I took the timeout to write a review. This product is worth the money, I highly recommend it.Tip: When connecting your third brake light back to your tailgate, shut the tailgate to have the circuit completed. I stressed myself out for about 15 minutes thinking that by disconnecting my light, that I killed it somehow.______________________________**** Edit for fun update: it is 2023, and this mount has outlasted so many other parts it’s ludicrous lol.Other than some accumulation of dirt after off-roading sessions (so clean your machine people) there is absolutely nothing that has gone wrong with this mount.I cannot recommend this mount enough! At this rate it’s going to seriously outperform and outlast the TJ itself!I’d give it 12/5 stars if I could! :D______________________________*** Update (and it’s still good lol) *** It is March of 2025, and I just killed my clutch… yet this spare mount still going and it is STILL bulletproof!!! It’s lasted over 11 years so far, and it has held up like a champ! No major scratches in the coating, no warping, no rust. It’s just dirty, and it can trap a little dirt after off roading, but all you have to do is not be lazy and clean your TJ with more care when you get back from a trip lol.Looking at everything I’ve gotten for this TJ over my 19 years of ownership, it’s honestly the best add on accessory I’ve ever added to replace a failing OEM part.I’m not joking either, this is still going strong and I’m kind of in shock that it still looks like it hasn’t changed. This mount has so far outlived the following items:Brake lines, master cylinder, lights, tires, Batteries, 1 chair bracket, 1/7 of a grill insert (lol), 1 already half dead soft top and soft top frame, one part of a lock box, 1 wiring cluster, 1 OEM fender flare, floor mats, 1 cab only rain cover, 2 seat covers, 1/2 roll bar padding, wheel caps, my pride, and the normal things like hoses / fluid / filters / brake pads etc.So… this is all to say that I simply cannot recommend this product enough!I’m going to go fix the clutch now to get her back on the road, but I’ll update this review as I keep putzing along here lol.19/5 stars due to durability and performance over time.

Oversized Tire mount for Jeep Wrangler
This oversize tire mount for Jeep Wranglers is rugged and was farily easy to install. The bolt threads were slightly larger than the threads on the swing gate to my Jeep Wrangler Sahara so I bought a tap at Ace Hardware and that did the trick. They fit perfectly after running the tap through. I think the paint had covered the thread just enough to make the fit too tight. The carrier is heavy duty, rugged and certainly saved me lots of money over some of the other mounts costing hundreds of dollars. I have 265/65/20 tires on Moto Metal wheels that are large and heavy. This mount works great. The bolts that come with the mounting plates are 14/25ths so I found a nut that fit perfectly and then tested it against the tap. Someone at a hardware store can help you through this if you need help. I also bought a tap driver handle to twist the tap through the existing thread. The tap and handle will probably cost you around $15 but that is a small price when you are saving hundreds of dollars on the other types. I figure I saved at least $250 by buying these mounting plates and the tap. In my opinion this is a great buy, and great cost saver.

A tire mount that is actually vertical!!!!
Thank god, it does exist. A tire carrier that is heavy duty and doesn't angle your tire forward or backwards. I paired this with the Rugged Ridge Heavy Duty Spartacus hinge and it works great. I have a 33x12.50r15 with a 8" wheel with 3.75" backspacing. This fits perfectly. Unfortunately this is not the tire carrier that comes with the Spartacus Heavy Duty tire carrier kit. That one holds your tire at an angle. I presume they angle them so they will hold a larger tire without hitting the rear bumper. I can confirm this is fine with a 33". I believe a 35" would be fine too but your wheel offset could effect that.

Great product but with one issue
So this is a fantastic, well built Tire/Wheel Carrier. Very easy to install and I love that the screw holes for the wheel bolts are factory threaded into the metal bracket. The others that I was looking at were not and basically, it would create a problem in taking the tire off in an emergency because the back nuts would spin. This will not have that problem. For the three tire bumpers, I painted three 1.25" pvc pipe, painted them black and used a M6 x 60MM bolt to use with the combined length of the rubber bumper and pipe (there are three of these to keep the tire from swinging against your tail gate. Now for the issue: There are two bolt patterns with this. 5x4.5 which is standard TJ right on through 2006. But for anyone putting a more modern wheel/tire from 2007 and after, those bolt patterns are 5x5 and have been that way up until now. However, the ONLY bolt patterns on this metal tire carrier are 5x4.5 and 5x5.5. 5.5? Who the F uses that any more lol ? Well only CJ8, CJ7 and CJ5 which were the models before the YJ (5x4.5) and 10 years before the TJ (5x4.5). So YOU WILL NEED TO SPEND ANOTHER $50 on a 5x4.5 to 5x5 spacer for you to put any "modern" (aka 2007 to now) tires on this. But it is sturdy as heck.

Easy install, great design, very happy
My old one had welded seams. The seams were along the top edge, so over time, the weight of a big-a$$ spare tire broke the weld.I was impressed with this product for three reasons:1. It looks great and feels very sturdy2. It’s made from a single piece, I.e., no critical welds to break3. It fit the old holes perfectly.Every time I work on the Jeep, it always turns into a major retrofit. Not with this tire carrier. I’m really happy. Took about 10 minutes to install, including opening the box.
