Sutherland, Horne, Pavarotti: From Lincoln Center

All opera lovers should make a "mad dash" for this 2-CD set upon hearing of this Awesome set. From Bellini's "Norma" trio, with Dame Joan utterly pouring out a "stream" of musical sound at the absolute highest note at the end of the trio, to the heart-arresting/heartbreaking final scene of Verdi's Il Trovatore, nothing begins to compare to the oneness-of-ensemble and the sheer vocal musicianship of these legendary opera artistes. To say nothing of the individual (solo) pieces, where each artist bares their heart and soul in humble service to the music and the c(C)omposer[s], this set is the absolutely number One requirement for all lovers of opera. Maestro Bonynge demonstrates a perfect harmony with the singers, and lifts the playing of the New York City Opera to the level of the Metropolitan Opera -- I'd give the set a 10-star rating!!!

Three of the most incredible opera voices of my generation. The recording is pristine and the singing is superb; Dame Joan's high notes and trills are worth the price, but then Horne's mastery of contralto singing, and (of course) Pavorotti's tenor which is both accurate and crystal clear. A recording to treasure.

Fantastic recording, phenomenal artists, impeccable performances. Just what you would expect from this trio of legends!

I think the Pavarotti is the centuries premier tear if clarity and pure tone appeal to you and Sutherland is elegant and sublime and in a league of her own.

This was in my collection years ago on record (vinyl) and on cassette so YES I love it...

I saw this performance when it was televised and I had owned the vinyl recording. I loved it then and still do.

Will never forget that night. Was there live, then taped it on VHS, then had the double cassette version (remember cassettes?), then the compilation CD. Finally, the whole damn thing is re-released. And it sounds good. They really were in their prime. Highly recommended.
