Q: Can I put boiling hot water in this (for cleaning dirty rags)?

Absolutely! I have used water from the kettle and water from my stoce that was boiled to wash things in it. Had for over a year, still as good as day 1.

Q: What are the measurements of the washboard area?

I have the round basin. I measured from the top of the ridge to end ridge it measures 8 inches, width again just measured the ridges about 4 1/2 inches. The complete area is 10 inches length and width 4 3/4. I hope that helps some.
