G Drive hits the G Spot !
Delayed delivery by a couple of days but as I didn't need it urgently it was not a problem plus I was advised that it would be late so no issues there. Out of the box, plugged it into my iMac M1 processor machine and it backed up with no messing around. WOW was it fast. 198Gb backed up from scratch and encrypted in under 30 minutes. That, in my experience, is BLISTERINGLY FAST. I updated today 2 GB in less than 2 minutes. It is very compact, see pictures. Lightweight. I haven't tested the 'Shock Proof' and 'Water Proof' claims but I don't intend to either (not by choice anyway). I've had 3 drives fail due to shock so that's why I went of this one. The rubbery exterior would indicate that it is indeed more shock proof than my previous purchases. We shall see. Very happy overall. One niggle, one irritant, can't understand why the connector cables provided are sooooooooo short. The drive hangs out of the back of my iMac rather than sitting on the table so I'll try and find one of my other cables, and assuming it doesn't affect speed, use that. Seriously ridiculously short cable as you can see from the image. Other than that 5 Stars from me....... maybe more if I drop it and it survives..... or rather my data does.

Very fast, super build quality, compact and good looks as well.
Surprisingly came Mac friendly formatted Mac OS Extended with full details how to reformat for Windows. As latest Mac OS user, I reformatted to APFS. Works perfectly. A totally pleasing device.

Worth the money
It’s extremely well made and both looks and feels premium. It’s small and when compared to the Sandisk extreme rugged external SSD it has faster read/write speeds. If you own a Mac another nice bonus is that MacOS has its own icon for the device when it’s plugged in. I don’t regret my purchase at all. I use Native Instruments Maschine and can install both the application and sound library onto the drive and it runs as if it was installed on an internal drive.

A BRILLIANT DRIVE - READ CAREFULLY FOR SETUP INSTRUCTIONS FOR PCs (Windows Operating System)
I agree with the other reviewers. This is an excellent drive for the price. I also have the Samsung T5 which is great, but this drive is better value for money. If you plan to use this drive on a Windows computer, setting up the drive can be a little confusing, so I hope the following helps:WINDOWS USERS: This drive arrives formatted for APPLE computers. When you plug it into a PC (Windows 7/10 etc) you will hear the drive connect, but no drive letter will appear, so you can't access the drive straightaway. These leads some to think the drive is broken / not working. Not true, the drive needs to be reformatted to work on a PC but the way to do this is as follows:Ensure the drive is plugged in then...1.) RIGHT CLICK on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your taskbar2.) Select DISK MANAGEMENT from the menu3.) You will see the G-Drive listed (usually as DISK 2)4.) Look at the GRAPHIC of the hard drive and RIGHT CLICK on the PARTITION (The largest bit)5.) Choose the option to DELETE PARTITION. Once complete it will say UNALLOCATED SPACE6.) RIGHT CLICK on the Unallocated Space and select FORMAT and format it as NTFS (This is the only option available for PCs)7.) You can choose to QUICK FORMAT although I prefer to do a full format to set the disk up.8.) At the end of the FORMAT process Windows will assign a drive letter to the drive and it will open (D: / E: etc..)9.) If you now EJECT the drive using the icon on your task bar and plug it back in, it will open as a Windows drive with a Drive letter.Sorry if the above all sounds complicated, it is easier to do it that it appears! You then have a brilliant SSD drive to use for all your PC / Windows files.

Excellent, Fast & Very Portable.
Excellent little piece of kit, very fast, and much smaller than I expected. Having had two brand new Lacie drives fail on me in the last 6 months, I decided to try an SSD which, whilst being far more expensive, have a much better reputation for longevity. Obviously I can't prove how long it will last, but first impressions are that it is more than up to the job. Write speeds are lightning fast, and it works flawlessly with my Macbook. All in all, very pleased so far, just wish they weren't so expensive.

Perfect external storage for MacBook Pro
Now that I’ve moved from an iMac to a MacBook Pro, external storage has become very important to me given it’s so expensive to upgrade internally. But going back to a mechanical hard drive seemed like a step backwards, so I went with SSD.This new drive from G-Tech is amazingly good value for money. It’s not simply the cost per gigabyte - which is actually on par anyway - but that on top of this the drive is built like a tank, is one of the fastest on the market, and isn’t much larger than a credit card. You also get USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to Type 3.1 cables as well, for added expandability. The 500gb option is a sweetspot and has been ideal for archiving music and video, since I don’t need them on the go often. Compared to Samsung’s impressive T5, the added ruggedness and speed of this G-Tech model for basically the same price makes it a standout winner.
