works great for my charcoal grill!
I don't know that I would trust this to do something like charring meat, due to the fuel source I use, but I have used this to jump start my charcoal grill to great success. I feel like as long as you're using a clean burning fuel, however, this would be fantastic for finishing off sous vide cooked meats. It feels comfortable to hold and while I haven't used it for a sustained burn longer than maybe 60 seconds, it didn't feel like it would be a problem to burn it for longer as needed. overall, very happy with it.

Awesome and fun tool
You can give your food that extra sear, you can start your charcoal in record time, light a fire, burn some weeds, burn hole in your ground cover to plant. I love these, handy as heck.

Convenient and Easy to Use
Ok, so I'll start my review by saying that I don't intend to use this torch for direct flame cooking of food. I know it's advertised for that, but with a gas grill and pellet grill, I don't need this torch to sear anything. What I was looking for is a torch I could use to light wood pellets for my pizza oven. For this purpose, this torch is going to perform fantastic. The bottle of gas pictured came with a torch from Ace Hardware, but after a few uses the torch from Ace just stopped working (it wouldn't light, and once lit, wouldn't stay lit), which was frustrating as the tank definitely still had propane in it.I unboxed this torch, screwed onto my used bottle of gas, opened the valve, and attempted to light. At the start, the torch didn't seem to light. I very quickly found out that for ignition, the valve has to be just barely cracked, otherwise you won't ignite.Once ignited though, this torch can crank up the heat/intensity. It's important to note (as other reviewers have noted) that this torch does not have the inserts which help obtain a more complete combustion at low flame intensity. Any time you see orange/yellow in the flame, soot is being deposited. So if you do want to sear some steak or char something, make sure you have the flame intensity dialed up.I'm sure I'll find more uses for this torch, including lighting conventional fires in our fireplace. So far, I have no complaints with this torch and would recommend.

Works great
This is super easy to use, well made, and hasn’t given me an issue yet. The adjustable flame is pretty darn strong and works for everything from searing meat to starting a fire to even heat shrinking tubing (from a cautious distance, obviously). So far it lights on the first or second click and hasn’t malfunctioned yet. The housing is solid plastic with a metal interior and feels really sturdy. While this does chew through propane, it’s still becoming one of my favorite gadgets.

Lighter doesn't work
The torch screwed easily into a propane cannister. I checked the lighter and could see the spark when the trigger was pulled. I turned on the fuel, smelled the gas, and pulled the trigger repeatedly. The unit didn't light. I then used a hand held lighter and the unit lit with a roar. Some people would find this a potentially dangerous way to light the unit. Also, this is NOT suitable for indoor use. It is too powerful and a misstep could be disastrous.

works pretty well
This torch throws a much larger diameter flame than an ordinary propane torch. For kitchen use I recommend turning it down low as the higher settings are overkill. If using outside the large flame can be useful for starting fires or charcoal. It seems to be good quality and works well. The self starter is a great feature and much safer than having to light it manually.

Great for starting camp fires!
First of all, I have fallen in love with this torch! It is the perfect size for your hand and puts out some serious flame! Let me just say this, it is not an indoor torch; it is an outdoor tool. This would not be for carmelizing the sugar on your creme brûlée, you would set your house on fire! This is a huge flame! The build quality is insanely commercial and heavy duty, I am so impressed with this torch and how it feels in my hand. Having the ability just to hook up a one pound propane tank changes the game versus having to lug a 20 pound tank around, which you can do if you wanted to. You use the same button to ignite and adjust the flame. You turn the button to the left until you hear a slight hiss, then you press the button to ignite, and finally you continue rotating that button to the desired flame strength. You can top off any steak with this torch and give it a great sear. It's small enough to take camping or put in a backpack. The power is more than enough to start your charcoal grill, as well as kill the weeds in your rock beds and driveways. By the way, did I mention that this thing was fun!? I can see all sorts of uses for this small torch, and yes, I highly recommend it!
