Great kit to change a recessed light to a pendant light. The cans in the house I installed this product are 6" in diameter. Lukily, the can had three sheet metal screws in it that lined up perfectly with the three on this product. The cans are not very deep, so I needed to either cut or find a shorter threaded tube. The one that came with this product is 3.75". I found it to be a bit too long for the application I was working on. So, I bought a selection of these from a local home improvement store. The 2" long threaded tube was perfect. I am not sure why others struggled with the installtion of this product. It does not require an enginieering degree, only common sense and experience with a few tools. The lit is quite stout and I would have no issue hanging heavy light fixture from this. All in all, it was easy peasy.

The price tag is I guess fair. But to be honest I don't understand why it's so expensive. The product works great. It's been put together very thoughtfully to make your life easy. Here's the problem. If you have one of the round existing recessed boxes for lights, you're perfectly fine. But try doing this in a square box. It's almost impossible. The dimensions don't work even for a 6-in box and you can't reach one of the other ends. You have to jerry rig this which will make your light off center. I tried to reach out to the company if get to a solution but they were closed by the time I got there

This is a solid, well built kit. Since you're building it into a recessed can, getting the three screws in can be a bit tricky. All the parts of this kit are great. Thick metal. None of it easily bends. Final result is a secure mount for your new light. Installation is a bit tricky. The kit comes with three self tapping screws and you need to set them a couple of inches up and into your existing recessed can. There isn't much room to maneuver the screws and your screw driver to make that happen. While they are self tapping, I ended up drilling pilot holes. Once you get past that, the rest is easy. Wing nuts and simple wiring you could do in your sleep. Now we have a chandelier where we once had an outdated looking can.

So I was a little leery about using these to hang ceiling fans on 24”oc joists. It seems like a lot of weight for a can fixture. I emailed the manufacturer and they confirmed these would work. They actually work out great! Are they worth it? After cussing up a storm on the first one I would have said no way and to just use a retrofit brace! However, the second was a breeze. Despite the instructions, not all cans with three screws will work out using the existing holes. Mine were not equally spaced, by eye they were but definitely not when assembling the bracket. To make it easier on yourself use bit extensions or a long flex bit adapter, a magnetic bit and REAL tek screws (not the Phillips head self tapping screws included in the kit). I also found that trying to get the adapter with the mounting tabs, screws, wing nuts and large hands in the can to line up, mark and drill holes to be quite cumbersome. I found it much easier to install the first mounting tab on an existing screw location then loosely attach the plate, then loosely attach the remaining tabs. Then you can center everything and manipulate the bracket as it will not be square. If you’re using the flat trim I would also cut a couple inches off the stem and file the burr’s. Otherwise it will end up very deep in the can, and in my case hit the socket adapter. It takes a few stabs to get the plate screws at the right level, especially if there’s play in the can. Like I said, first one was a major pita, second a breeze. Beats having to break and cut the can and legs, hope there’s enough slack in the wiring, install a retrofit brace, and patch the ceiling or buy a oversized cover plate. I wish they were a little cheaper. The plain white version is reasonable. Another $20 to get a bronze colored trim piece seems excessive.

This product will only perform as well as your skills to install it and the integrity of ceiling can that you are attaching it to. Not for the average homeowner as the myriad of tools required to drill and attach the brackets in a tight 5" or 6" can are likely not owned by a typical homeowner. That being said, if you have the patience and skill to complete the installation right, this well engineered set will support your light fixture and as much weight as a 25-35lb large ceiling fan or light fixture. I picked up some extra hex nuts to double up on the threaded rod to insure that it couldn't back out on my fan installation. Worth the money and effort to install as it is the only option I found to convert a ceiling light can to a ceiling fan mount!

I bought this to replace a deck can light with a fan. It worked OK, but you really have to make sure you get the fan/fixture mounting plate centered in the hole, and adjusted so that the plate is level and just up inside the hole. If you don't get it just right the fan bracket won't hold the supplied bezel (medalion) up against the ceiling for a tight fit. It's really important to get that tight fit or the fan could work the can out of it's brackets. Also, even though this converter is expensive, they don't give you the screws you need to attach the fan mounting bracket. They just tell you to use the screws that come with the fan. Unfortunately, most fans don't come with screws as they expect you to use the screws that come on a standard fan mounting box...sort of a Catch 22! Seems like a pretty cheap way out if you ask me. So, just be prepared to put some time into this if you're putting in a fan as it will take some work! Additionally, the wires on the socket adapter are really too short. I had to remove the inner can bracket that holds the original lamp in place to make sure I would have enough wire to get through the inner threaded rod. The rod is way too long and causes the wires to be too short. They need to fix that! And be sure to only have enough of the threaded rod projecting down below the mounting plate to get the lock nut on. If it's too low, even the 1/4" they mention, you may not be able to get the fan receiver module in place. Just ask me how I know! Its a good product but needs some improvement to make it a better value. In the long run, I think I would have been better off just removing the can completely (see YouTube for how to do this) and installing an "old work" bracket that you can buy at a box store for about $11. You would still have to get a bezel of some kind, but 7" doorknob/wall protectors would work I think.

This product is a life saver for retro fitting a small ceiling fan into a can light fixture. Saved me a ton of time and grief.
