How to Fake-Date a Vampire (Charming Cove Book 2)

Charming & Captivating
I totally loved this second book in the Charming Cove series. In this book we are introduced to Witch Emma Willowby who was orphaned as a small child and has an ax to grind with the Vampire Duke of Blackthorn. The Duke (Alaric) is smitten with Emma when they first meet but has been burned by an ex and has some trust issues. His grandmother comes to visit and he begs Emma to pretend to be his girlfriend. She finally says she will in return for her hosting the Beltane ball at his estate. Emma meets her familiar who is cute, sweet and quite sassy. As planning goes forth for the ball, a troublemaking ghost comes forth, moles cause chaos and Emma has to save the day. I love the chemistry between Alaric and Emma. I also think its sweet how his family took Emma into their home and their hearts. This is a very funny and heartwarming story. I highly recommend reading this book. You will also see some familiar faces from book 1 in this captivating story.

Enjoyable Read
Cute story. Easy read. Pretty predictable, but I really liked the characters. A fun, found family story with plenty of predicaments. Definitely recommend if you need a light, cozy read.

This was a fun, fluffy, magical/paranormal romance.
I would say this book falls in the romcom genre. This was a 5⭐️ read, very light on the spice! This book follows Emma, an orphaned witch with a longing to belong, as she needs to find a place to host an annual ball for her coven to become an official member. Emma decides the only place suitable to make her stand out is the Blackthorn Estate belonging to Alaric, a reclusive vampire duke. Alaric agrees to host the ball if Emma fakes date him to make his grandmother happy. The MCs are attracted to each other and start to develop feelings. But it is complicated because Emma has braised feelings about titles and wealthy people based on the actions of Alaric’s father, and Alaric was burned by a past girlfriend who sold his family secrets to the magical press.I always prefer books with dual POVs and this was no different. The author did a great job of character building; I could really feel Emma’s longing to belong and find a family, along with the pain Alaric feels at a past betrayal and desire to make his grandmother happy. The world building and descriptions in this book were an effortless continuation from the first book. The journey of Emma and Alaric building upon their feelings is so sweet! We get comedy from Emma’s playful and sass familiar, Penelope the Skunk! I love Alaric’s grandmother, she is so posh and regal but approachable and lovable, plus she loves binge watching TV in secret (Breaking Bad fan!)Thank you NetGalley, Bonnie Doon Press and Linsey Hall for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review. I requested this book after it was release because 1) I didn’t know it was on KU and 2) I didn’t know it was book 2. Therefore, I did not read this until I read the first book.

Light and wholesome supernatural romance
⭐️rating: 3/5Thanks to NetGalley for the copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.Okay, this was very cute, and I enjoyed reading it. It’s a cute story, I liked the characters, and it is a wholesome supernatural romance. The reasons why I didn’t rate it higher are because it could’ve been written better, there were some holes in the story, and some of the choices were a little questionable. There’s a lot of potential here for sure, I just think there’s some room for improvement.Emma and Alaric were pretty good characters with some depth, though they could’ve been developed a bit more still. And I loved all the side characters, they were very fun and enjoyable. Especially Penelope! (The word “preened” is just a bit overused haha). Though I wish we saw more of what makes a “vampire” a “vampire” in this world.I also wish we had a bit more at the ending too. It was very quick and it ended abruptly after there had been so much build up for the ball and their relationship. Now don’t get me wrong, I still really enjoyed reading this book, it just fell a little short of my expectations, which made it more of a 3/5 star rating for me. I’d recommend this for anyone wanting a light supernatural romance to get into the spooky vibes this fall.

Fantastic story
Everything about this story was perfect, from the charm of each character to the call backs from previous books! I will say to keep tissues close by since I would be lying if I said I didn’t shed a tear or two.

Sweet little story
I loved the overall story and had a good time reading it. I believe though that it was a little light on details and would have been better in 2 books, but everything was lovely in the end.

Such a fun reading experience! Snarky vampires are a must read :)
I absolutely adored this book! I loved this arc so much that I’m definitely buying a copy for my bookshelf. The author brilliantly weaved the fake dating trope into the story, adding a delightful layer of intrigue and chemistry between the characters. The seemingly innocent royal grandmother was a charming and unexpected twist, her quirks adding a unique and heartwarming dimension to the plot. What truly stood out for me was the humor, which felt organic and seamlessly integrated into the narrative. It never felt forced, making the story a joy to read. And Penelope, the skunk, was a lovable addition. Her role in helping to rid the paparazzi was both clever and heartwarming. This paranormal romance is a delight!

3.5* pnr hea Magical realism
A medium falling for a vampire is a good match. This is a sweet story for the most part. I skipped over the big sex scene (and you can too) to the morning after scene because I listen to most everything I read due to how my brain turns most long passages into what amounts to a word search or vegetable soup (dyslexia). This was set again in the fictional town of Charming Cove, which links all this series together. Each one is its own story with quick cameos by previous characters as needed to move the story along. No real spoilers as these are HEAs so we all know there will be one. I also appreciate her creativity with "foul" language. In magic as in life our words have weight or at least they should or why waste the effort or breath?Thank you for the fun escape read. I hope to visit Charming Cove soon.

Another winner
I'm not quick to kiss up and gush over a writer. Having said that, I love Linsey's world of Charming Cove and it inhabitants. Our witch, Emma, and the Duke Alaric, strike up a deal where he will allow Emma's coven hold their Beltane Ball on his grounds if she pretends to be his girlfriend for his grandmother's benefit. Of course they fall in love.Is Book 3 out yet? No? I'll wait.
