Review: SUCH a great resource! - This book was just what I needed in my home library. It bugs me how much food gets thrown away, and I have always wanted to learn how to utilize scraps to make a kitchen garden where those things are put to good use. It's one thing to see quickie video online talking about doing this, but really knowing how to is something different entirely. The author gives a thorough overview so you are well set up to create your own sustainable garden to save you budget money on groceries each month and do your part to eliminate food waste in our environment. I know I will be referencing this book often as my fledgling garden grows!

How to Regrow EVERYTHING!
You know the scenario: youโve finished the avocado and the seed is laying there in ovoid splendor. You just know thereโs something you could do to grow another avocado, or at least another plant, but you donโt know what it is and, maybe even after keeping that pit around for a few days until it starts to dry out and the skin begins to peel off, in the end, into the trash it goes, along with a pang of regret and a faint whiff of failure. Something has been lost, and youโre not even quite sure what. That celery base. That pineapple top. The carrot that sprouted roots right in your crisper. You just know that all of those could somehow be turned into more food instead of wasted food, but you just donโt even know where to begin. Until now. Author Kelly Reed lets us know that concerns about food waste are what led her to begin experimenting with โrecyclingโ food she had already purchased. A generational gardener, her results were more than satisfactory. In The Regrowerโs Handbook, she shares how she got those results and she does it with specifics about a great many types of fruits and vegetables, like coconuts and durian (Yes! Durian.) Blueberries. Good old avocados. (Note: we were all doing it wrong when we were kids). Just about any type of fruit or veg you can think of is included here. And me? Iโm already washing the dirt off my potatoes. Letโs go!

Easy stuff
This book is good for people starting to garden. It says we can use our groceries to grow things. I think it's smart. It's not too hard to understand, and it has pictures. I learned new things.

A great read!
This book has SO much information I wish I had the physical copy so I could refer to it easily on my counter while I'm doing things. I plan to buy the physical book soon for just such a purpose.

Well written!
A particularly exciting aspect of the book is its exploration of mushroom regrowth. Reed takes readers through the process of regrowing various mushroom varieties, from oysters to portobello and shiitake. This opens up a world of possibilities for culinary enthusiasts, allowing them to enjoy mushroom-based dishes at a fraction of the cost. The author also covers essential topics such as fertilizers, pesticides, and gardening tools, providing readers with guidance on how to keep their regrown garden healthy while minimizing expenses. Additionally, the importance of timing is emphasized, ensuring that readers have the knowledge to maximize their regrowing success. I enjoyed this read, learned a lot and I'm sure that anyone who buys it will the same!

Save money on healthy food
We all know inflation has jacked up the cost of food a lot. My father used to say the family should give up food as just a bad habit. It is a large part of our budget, and healthy fresh food is the most expensive. The book pulls together most of the information you need to grow your own, maybe more than you need. Getting dirt with nutrition could most likely come from unused ground in your backyard, and when you grow your own the pollution of plastic (I hate that) used to wrap food is eliminated and the shipping is eliminated. But best of all the grocery bill is cut. Well written, good information, 5 stars.

Lots of tips, even for a seasoned gardener
Really useful to know the ideal temperature preferred by the more challenging fruits and veg. It makes sense to use the scraps you have and having individual guides is really useful and helps you understand where you have been going wrong with some seeds. Definitely a book I need to keep for future reference. This hobby is truly addictive and the failures become the challenge for the next year. Well done. Great topic. Easy to follow and the results will bring happiness to many.

Good but could focus more on sustainability and permaculture
I do a lot of regrowing and was hoping to learn how to take it to the next level from this book. It didn't do that for me, but this book does contain a comprehensive list of produce that you can regrow from scraps and seeds of supermarket food, along with detailed step by step instructions. For those that I regrow I don't disagree with the methods presented, although I did find the discussion of regrowing apples a little too optimistic. Apples are hard to regrow, and because what you buy in the store comes from a grafted plant, what you regrow at home won't be the same anyway. The advice relies heavily on fertilizer, and misses an opportunity to provide small scale permaculture advice. There is a chapter on home made fertilizer, basically mulch and compost, but I think there are easier approaches to take a permaculture mindset to your garden beds, which I think is vital if you really want to be self sufficient without replacing your supermarket budget with an equivalent agriculture budget.

Green Tips
I've grown vegetables for years but never thought about starting plants from scraps. Gardeners know it's not always easy or productive--having an informative tried and tested guide greatly improves the odds. The detailed step by step regrowing guides are well presented and should be easy to follow in practice. The author's passion for the subject is evident. For me much of the first part of the book read like filler but if you're a novice food gardener, you'll get more out of it. The growing instructions themselves are very well done.
