It works!
I have a 7-year old and a 3-year old. We live in Colorado, where the sun can be brutal (sunny most of the time + high altitude). I have put sunscreen on them for as long as they can remember, and I have been growing tired of their constant resistance to applying the "yucky stuff" every single day (the 3-year old learned all too fast that she could protest). You'd think by now it's second nature. It's not. I came across this book on Instagram through another derm I follow, and was so excited. Bought it, and casually left it on our coffee table. Well, well, well -- the 7-year old bookworm picked it up and devoured it in one sitting. Best thing? He gave me all the facts afterwards (how much sunscreen we should apply, all the reasons why, etc.), AND asked for the next book in the series. Better still? Both kids were super cooperative the next morning and were happy to let me put sunscreen on them, no problem. Will it last? Time will tell, but I have renewed hope that they get it and that it will become second nature. Well done, Dr. Lazic and family!

Much needed work about use of sunscreens
This will be a very informative book for children and their parents. The format, like comic books, is fun and will convince children and adults about the importance of protecting themselves from the sun. It dispels many myths about sun exposure and it does so in a way that is knowledgeable and convincing. It is also a great gift for your friends and family. The author is an outstanding dermatologist who also knows how to deliver valuable information.

A fun and entertaining story with an important message about skincare.
With the huge focus on wellness, health, beauty, and overall general health, there's no better time to learn best practices than to start with youth. In Dr. Tamara Lazic Strugar's Skinventurez graphic novel series for young readers, she wraps up educational nuggets of skin care health with imaginative and fun storytelling. The first playful tale follows a family and friends who vacation together in the summer and are in for a spooky adventure… and a painful lesson about ignoring necessary sunburn prevention routines.I was so impressed with the way that this fun story disguises learning about proper skin care protection and attention. Children will love the graphic novel illustrations and the scary and silly adventures, while families and educators of young children will love the informative message that it relays that provides a foundation for future healthy skin care. A must-read perfect for summer reading and back to school.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Amazing!
The Sunscreaming Summer” is a delightful graphic novel written by dermatologist Dr. Tamara Lazic with a perfect blend of engaging storytelling, and a passion for promoting sun safety. This book is important for families looking to learn about the significance of proper skincare.Dr. Lazic weaves her magic storytelling mainly through the characters Mia, Luka, Jude, and Anya. While the children are on summer vacation, having fun playing pranks on one another, they encounter various adventures and challenges along the way one of which -Luka’s sister Mia tells him to use sunscreen, but he doesn’t listen and gets sunburned. With beautifully illustrated images that pop off the page, we can feel Luka’s pain from the sunburn and learn why sun protection becomes so important. In a fun way that children can relate to, Dr. Lazic teaches us how to treat a sunburn & how to protect ourselves. I was fascinated to learn about how much sunscreen is used for the face and neck (two finger lengths) and for the body (1 teaspoon per body part). I also loved learning about the oatmeal bath recipe for calming the pain. Dr. Lazic ensures that the information is presented in a fun and accessible way, making it easy for children to grasp the importance of sunscreen and protective measures.I highly recommend this book for parents, caregivers and children of all ages. Congratulations Dr. Lazic & Lea Embeli for a beautifully written and illustrated book. I can’t wait to read the next one!

What a fun way for kids to learn about sun protection - perfect read!
The media could not be loaded. The book is entertaining and super informative at the same time, with actual tips on applying sunscreen. My kids 9 and 11 years old both loved this graphic novel and thought it was hilarious. And it has useful info on applying sunscreen, how to be “sun smart”, and about science behind it, and why it is so important - instead of parents just nagging to do it. The book should be available alongside the sunscreen aisle! Now I feel that putting on sunscreen 🧴, hat and covering up against harmful UV rays would be much less of a battle.Look forward to the next series on skin care education fir kids!
