The book I have been waiting for
This book really spoke to me and I totally related to it- thank you so much to Lucy Rocca. It's an honest and realistic account of the problems of being a binge drinker with Lucy's way of dealing with it and other ideas. Doesn't involve loads of exercises/tasks either which is good, removes any pressure. She somehow has managed to turn binge/heavy drinking into a non-issue by promoting all of the positives of being alcohol free but in a very un- cheesy/cliched/preeching way.It has also given me the confidence to find my own way without feeling I'll need to resort to AA or label myself. I am also not waiting to hit the bottom.I will keep dipping into the book and put sticky labels into the pages that I found most useful as a reminder, as well as using Soberistas website. Lucy Rocca is an inspiration and a pioneer for women who want to do what the title says.

Highly recommended
I bought this book wanting to quit the booze, it is a really well written book that i could relate to on a lot of levels being around the same age as Lucy i was born in 1975 i also went through the same scenes raves followed by the ladette era which is also where my drinking began with lager as was the fashion for girls back then drinking pints. It lead me to join the website Soberistas and i haven't touched a drop for nearly a month now even been on holiday didn't touch a drop or fancy it. The book is very informative and inspirational. What Lucy has done for people like me is amazing she deserves a saint hood, she has taken the stigma away from people that drink a lot; and made us feel normal and empowered rather than ashamed.I recommend her other books as well

Amazing read
I never write reviews but felt compelled to on regards to this book. I think it is particularly helpful for women born from 1970 plus onwards who were brought up in the celebrated Ladette, Sex & The City, Bridget Jones etc culture. We have been sold a massive lie and feminism took the wrong turn, I know numerous women in their 30's & 40's (myself included) where alcohol has has a huge detrimental effect on their life, yet they are still struggling with the question if they have a problem with alcohol. Uplifting, eye opening and a down to earth read. Will refer to this many times on my journey.

I didn't realize when I bought this book that it ...
I didn't realize when I bought this book that it is geared, almost exclusively, at women. That seems to me a strange concept for a book about living alcohol free; and yet, there seems to be no consideration for readers of the opposite sex. It's probably an OK book once you get past the long stretches of prose on feminist history - presumably included to give the lady readers a few inspirational role models - but not at all what i bought this book for.

An excellent analysis of binge drinking in western society that is firmly rooted in personal experience
Another excellent book. I found this just as readable as the others but also quite different in content. Lucy still connects everything to her own very personal experiences but in addition she explores many of the cultural reasons behind binge drinking in western society. She includes some historical perspectives looking at some key figures along the way but she also examines and analyses the cultural influences that resulted in the normalising of harmful drinking patterns. I found this particularly fascinating. Nevertheless the overall tone of this book is really positive and helps to reinforce the fact that an alcohol-free life need not be all about denial but instead can be,as the title suggests, happier and healthier.

Not quite what I expected
I was disappointed by the content of the book, which I felt did not match up to the "blurb" on the back. Ms Rocca gives far more detail than I felt was necessary about her own addiction (the greater part of the book) and not as much information about how to actually come to grips with the problem. It was, however a step on the way, and even small steps are useful.

This is not a bad thing, but I was hoping for more of ...
I really admire Lucy and her sobriety - she has obviously come a long way which is inspirational. However for me personally this book quoted too many facts & figures and was very serious. This is not a bad thing, but I was hoping for more of a biography. I am glad I have it in my collection though as it is very good for reference.

Now shut up.
When will this person stop writing the same time after time for what affects thousands, all over the world and getting rich out of her past addiction and laughing all the way to some out of England bank, using vulnerable peoples misery , there way.
