WE LOVE THIS
I have been using this program for a couple of years. It's simple, straight forward, easy to teach, and very affordable. We decided to make the switch to go math because of the colorful workbooks. It lasted two weeks before we were back with math mammoth. The substance and repetition was not there in go math. I will use math mammoth until the final grade level with all the rest of my children. There is just nothing out there that is so easy to use, so complete, and so affordable.

Get this program
After seeing reviews and flip-throughs of this program on YouTube, I decided to change my children's Math program from Math-U-See to Math Mammoth. So glad I did. I have seen them progress further with this program and actually grasp the math concepts. Math Mammoth is a mix of mastery and spiral learning.

Very dry, and not geared for the student who struggles in math, discrepancy with page numbers.
Last I checked second grade math was not even printed in color. This math is so dry and not great for the visual learner. We are on third grade math. Its not in color, but I suppose thats okay by third grade. We transferred schools and went from Go Math to Math Mammoth. This was a horrible transition for us. Both curriculum were teaching "new math", "mental math", and were common core compliant. Even so, it was a bad transition because Math Mammoth covers more territory, moves very quick. Terminology was not standard and we had to relearn their terminology. The other thing that this publication really did very wrong, was discrepancies in page numbers. I cannot account for why this is, but I can tell you that my student has missed two math review assignments before a test because of the page number discrepancy in their publication causing her to need to do her tests over.In full disclosure, math is not my student's strong point. I have come to a deep suspicion that this math curriculum is geared to the student who is naturally strong in math. For this reason it may be the right curriculum for you. I find that the instruction with each lesson is lacking in tips and terminology for the homeschooler. However I guess there is a web sight that offers some tips. You just have to go digging, its not at the ready. All in all, I am currently in the process of trying to get my daughter out of this math curriculum at her coop into something that better suits her. And from what I hear, not one new student transitions well into this curriculum. And this is not because we were not doing "new math", "mental math" and common core compliance. We were. I will say this. It does seem to utilize rote memory better than our last curriculum (Go Math), which utterly failed at repetition.

Love this!
I'm a homeschooling mom and I love this series! The math is fun but there isn't a bunch of distracting pictures and stuff you don't need on the pages. It allows the child to focus and the only other supplies you might need are a abacus (the colorful beads almost every parent gets their kids) and a ruler. I love how geometry is presented at first with pattern drawing too. Everything you need is in these books!

Great book
Bought this 1b with the first 1a haven't used it yet but 1a is fantastic, has helped gain confidence, able to do unaided once explained what needs to be done, book has lots of online games to help make learning fun. Will buy next set when we reach that stage.

This is NOT the full-colour original!
I've used Math Mammoth, and as a programme it's fine. The problem with this edition is that you only get black-and-white (not full-colour, like the original, and like shown in the sample pages). This not only significantly reduces the visual appeal for small children, but also makes some of the problems difficult/impossible (like tallying blue, red, and yellow fish, when they are all just grayscale). Would recommend the programme. Would not recommend this edition. (You can buy an electronic version, and then print on your own colour printer, if necessary.)
