All battery operated thermostats should be designed like this one. The display is large and easy to read, the buttons are well designed and easy to use and the battery compartment design should be a requirement for all such thermostats. The batteries are located behind a little door on the front of the unit and do not require pulling the unit off the wall to replace, absolutely wonderful. Temperature control seems to be accurate and is easy to set. The unit looks great, is compatible with a range of furnace types and is a good value for the price.

72yo granny installed! As pictured, works well, good instructions for install, not difficult. Placing wire stickers is easiest with two people to make sure you get them on the right wires when removing old thermostat. Our a/c seemed to be cooler after this was installed- which doesn't make much sense to me, but yay! Ordered another for my sister. Update - Our a/c & heat systems really like this thermostat- turns only quickly, has improved function of both systems. It's old school, simple, heat/cool- up/down, no programming - lights up well, can read without glasses!!!!

I gave this 4 stars because, as others have noted, the install is a bit tricky. On the upside, it works fine and the display is huge. Here’s my words of caution: (mind you, I’m a contractor by trade and a pretty clever mechanic) You’ll need a very small Phillips screwdriver for the wire connections. Almost eyeglass size. A P1 is too big. The actual wire terminal shape does not match the instruction diagram, so follow the letters, not the picture. There are no instructions on how to separate the back mounting plate from the front and because of a lot of friction in the internal pins this process is kinda hard, in fact I thought for a minute I’d break the whole thing getting it apart. Finally teased it apart by applying gentle pressure and rocking it back and forth. Another important point…the mounting screws(not supplied) MUST be flush with mounting plate. If they protrude above the plate the unit will not engage far enough to snap in, so be careful on screw selection. Should be a little clearance internally, but there isn’t. Aside from that, it works fine in my “heat only” set up and the display is huge enough for my security camera to read from across the room, so I can check it when I’m out of town. I guess if you’re at all mechanically challenged, I’d hire a clever professional to install this.

I purchased this thermostat to resolve a heater continually running in the heat cycle, up to 10° past the set point. This thermostat didn't resolve the problem immediately, until a SWITCH on the inside of the thermostat was switched from a gas heat mode to an electric heat mode. I have hot water heat but the switch didn't have the hot water heat as an option, but I switched it from gas to electric anyway, and wala, that resolved the problem that has eaten my lunch for over 3 years. So if you buy this thermostat make sure the SWITCH mode you set applies to the type of heat you have. Set the switch to electric if you have electric or water heat, and set it to gas, only if you have a gas furnace. There are many other good things I could say about this thermostat that are vi displayed on the display window, but I leave it to you to discover all the good things about this thermostat. You will be happy you installed this thermostat. BTW, the instructions to install are great and easy to understand, better than any other thermostat I used before. I write the truth here, nothing but the truth, period.

I bought this as a replacement for a Nest thermostat that was installed by a HVAC company at my grandmother's house. While the Nest was clear to see, it was challenging for her to navigate and switch the operations. This solved it, with physical buttons for up and down and sliders for the different modes. The large number is the current temperature and the smaller is the set point. The blue backlight comes on when you press a button and turns off after 5 seconds. It saves the different set points between modes which is helpful when changing seasons. It was incredibly simple to install myself. The only thing I had to change was the display cycle, which can show temperature and humidity. To make it easy for her, I set it to temperature only (this is found in the manual that comes with it).

Got tired of trying to understand the Nest that was in my house when I bought it….that thing had a mind of its own and repeated attempts to reprogram it failed!! This basic non green politically incorrect thermostat it wonderful. its for a single hvac system, one AC, one heat. 5 wires that match the wires in the wall. 10 minute install, works as advertised. set a temp and walk away, manually change the temp when you want to. I love it!
