You'd have to be using a very old charger. That or the watch will only charge at 1A. What I can tell you is that I have used it with a battery pack and a multi-port table charger, all capable of up to 2.4A charging. I connect my watch and forget it. Sometimes for a few hours, sometimes overnight and haven't run into any issues. While I am still using for my bedside charge, I've added a small type-c adapter for travel that allows me to use any usb-c cable to charge my watch.
