Simple, but that's a good thing
Yes it's basic, but you know what as a first time mum I was looking for a bit of simple. I was overwhelmed with advice, getting confused with all the websites, forums etc. In the end I just used this. I would read the month ahead. I'd then have a rough idea what I might be instore for. Some of it I follow, some of it I don't, but I wasn't looking for an exact lengthy transcript of how to raise my baby, I just wanted a little oversight of what you expect at each milestone. I found her progress was easier to appreciate with that little extra knowledge, without being overwhelmed with info on how I should be raising my bub, or judging me or her if we werent achieving them on time. Perfect I think.

If you have to buy a baby book, I'd recommend this one
We used the day-by-day pregnancy book and found it an excellent companion for a first time pregnant couple. The baby version seemed like a no-brainer purchase and it has been. A great review of what to expect in terms of growth, behaviour and development, there is enough science to digest and inform but not so much that you need a qualification in biology or psychology to understand it. There is also, crucially, a lack of emotional wording. This is not about someone's opinion, this is not a "how to raise your child" book and it does not assume that you are an idiot. What it does is provide you with the foundation knowledge to help you find your own way and assume that you have the wherewithal to do just that. We like to read a week in advance once a week together, a little ritual that we enjoy and find helpful.

Lots of useful info
This book is very good, lots of information and helpful tips. I got it after my son was born and have been able to dip in and out when I have time to read it.Each day has a topic and a short bit about that, but I find that I need to read forward/backward a week or two to make sure I've got the relevant info.

Enjoyable and informative
This book has been a great companion of mine throughout my pregnancy. I keep it in the kitchen and refer to it once or twice a week for my updates. Baby has new changes day by day in the first two semesters and it's nice to have a daily reminder of the miracle growing inside. The book is freakishly relevant, I suffered with sinus congestion as weird pregnancy side-affect and it made me into a real heavy breather, especially at night. I woke up one morning and my husband complained of the racket I was making...I went downstairs to refer to this book and one of the topics that day was congestion! Not the only time it happened either!Brilliant book that I can't recommend enough. There is also a day-by-day Baby book for the first year that I have also bought and thatI looks pretty good too!

Amazing book
I bought this book as a first time mum. It is helping me to understand our baby and his development every week. It is split into weekly sections of how is baby developing etc. I read each week before he reach the next week what is about to happen (so I know what to expect), although it is only a guide as each child reach these milestones in their own time but it is good to know what is ahead of us :-) It is lovely book and I found it very useful myself personally. If you like to know things like myself than this book is just for you.

Organized well. You can read it section by section. Fantastic information. Clearly presented.
I like this book better than "what to expect" because this one does a better job of what you'll ACTUALLY expect versus telling you the throngs of horrible things that could happen to you or your baby. I'd rather be informed than mentally prodded with scary information. On one hand, it's good to know what could happen, so the other books you've probably already ordered are good to skim through, but this book I recommend reading all the way through. Easy to read, you'll actually have TIME to read it because you can read the age your baby is instead of a book that's all mixed up and organized by diseases and threats. Clear photos and explanations and tips on how to make your life and baby's life easier and better. I've understood my baby's needs better because of this book. I feel really glad I got it because it was the only book that really helped my daily life with my newborn.

we loved this well-illustrated book
As first-time parents, we loved this well-illustrated book, recommended it to one couple, and recently ordered another for an expecting couple in our family. Rather than grouping content by topic, the book is ordered chronologically, starting with Day 1 and progressing throughout the first year. Don't expect to read straight through; there are lots of pictures, sidebars, notes, etc. This makes it easier to find and retain relevant information (as opposed to reading a 100-page section on "Diet and Nutrition"). Provides a thorough treatment of most of the common issues, fun discoveries and concerns you encounter as a new parent.
