Oiling the blades will contaminate any food chopped. Oil may be required on some of the drive gearing depending on the type of machine, normally older types as modern units are sealed. If so use sparingly after cleaning.

Paper shredders make small bits of paper/dust that will stick to any oil and gum up the works. So I suggest you clean the machine cutting area out as much as possible manually and avoid oiling. Remember unplug the power first.

Will this remove rust from a bike chain and handle bars please?

Hi, This oil is a lubricant so it is great for proving movement in such things as dry and dirty bike chains. It is not a rust remover though and it does not say that on the tin, as far as I am aware. As you are probably aware their are various stages of rust from tiny dots to deeper, larger areas. Because rust get's into the metal surface and forms a sort of powder above the entrance points of the rust, the oil will remove the top surface of the rust powder but the rust is there. It's the same for rusty chains the worse the rust is the deeper the rust problem will be. This oil will not remove the root of the rust it will just help a rust chain move a little better depending on the level of rust.

Can the top unscrew to transfer to oil can?

No, you would have cut through the base of the nozzle and then pour the oil into your oil can.
