What a hot mess
I kinda knew what I was getting into as this is a "new old stock" item - as WD exited this market a long time ago (one of my first routers was a WD MyNet750 back in 2013; which I loved, so I was pretty well versed with WD products). But these days, it's really hard to find an ethernet switch where the cable ports are actually on the back, and the front simply has lights. Even the new Linksys SE3005 revision2 model has all the ports MOVED to the front (the original SE3005 had a similar setup to this WD Swtich....but the original SE3005 revision1 is impossible to find). All the wires sticking out on the front of my Linksys switch looks hideous on my desk setup! The package I received had a broken seal and the unit had a manufacturing date of 2012; almost 9 years ago. The 1st issue appears to be the AC adapter - which looks NOTHING like the one depicted in the manual (manual shows that there should be about 4 different plugs that you can simply slide in and out to suit your country...similar to BOSE plugs). The one I received is for the EU market, and there's a US adapter that plugs on top of it - so it literally protrudes out 3 inches.....and it literally pops off from the slightest touch....so I'll have to duct tape it or something so it doesn't slide off as seen in my pix! The biggest issue is that there were rattling sounds from within inside the actual device. Well, the top literally just came off! As seen, the screw anchors (that holds the top to the rest of the unit) are literally all shattered and was rattling all inside. I played around with the screw and it appears the screws don't even go into the remaining studs properly as they're simply too fat - meaning that the plastic anchors shattered because the screw was too big! I AM SIMPLY BAFFLED on the history of this device. Like how did WD assemble millions of these with the wrong screw size ?I need a switch now so I'm simply going to keep what I got - my plan is to go to the hardware store tomorrow to find a longer and smaller girth screw so that the new screw will reach into the remaining studs when screwed in from the bottom. If that doesn't work, perhaps I'll just super glue the top to the unit.

What a suprised from WD
I orderd this little switch by mistake because one of my media devices brought down my netgear switch. Then I found out most of the positive reviews here are from Vine reviewers. I requested to cancel but too late and here comes the mini review.WD is not known for making network equipment and the low price really made me wonder about spending my time to test it. I did plug in and started a quick transfer of ripped DVD files from my NAS to test out the QoS feature and i got the same speed around 67MB/s ( ubuntu 12) so it's not bad. I put it back to the box thinking of giving it away. I can't stand the fact that there are many viewers are from Vine progam but not from actual users so I decided to test myself and publicized the truth.I don't have fancy test equipment so I copied ripped DVD files from Nas to windows8 and windows 7 PC and between two PC using shared folder. I was shocked that I got 90-112MB/s when transferring files from my NAS to my PCs. Transferring 2.9GB ISO file from Win7pc to Win8 pc reached about 90MB/s. I also enabled the jumbo frames on both PCs and the switch has no problem forwarding the data. The only thing I can't tell whether the switch throughput 2000mb/s full duplex is per port or total. My old switch, netgear GS608v2, could not handle CAT6 cable and the speed falls back to 100mb/s. For that reason I have to connect cat6 cables to the router which is ok but not ideal for some scenarios. Let's say my NAS has Cat5e connected to the switch and my PC has Cat6 connected to the router so when streaming video from the Nas to PC, the router may not handle the streaming from Netflix to an IPad at the same timeSo I feel comfortable to put the WD on duty. All my local devices are on the switch and my Ooma on the router so all the streaming is not going beyond the switch and the router should be handling the voice traffic nicely.Pros- Low price- Fast transfer speed, real Gb ethernet- QoS ( did not test this feature much)- Power saving ( not verified)- Support jumbo 9K frames- Link speed indicator 1000mb/s vs 100mb/sCons- Look and feel cheap, all plastic- No vertical stand- No clear specificationsI would say it is safe to buy this switch. I am sure WD just puts the cover and the gut was designed by a Chinese company but it works.

Boo. Please stop counting the input port as a useable port, companies!!!!
I really do need a switch with Qos in my house because of greedy streaming kids sucking up the bandwidth ALL DAY LONG. Sometimes you need a fast connection for a few minutes to snag a ticket or something when they first go on sale or snake an item on ebay and the other people in the house just don't think about all the crap they have downloading in the background 24 hours a day undermining your efforts. It is incredibly frustrating. I really didn't think there was another way to share bandwidth fairly without rationing hours or chaining people to the toilet or a tree and away from electronic devices for the ten minutes a month when I need them to stop hogging the connection.I was looking at a few other switches in the $250+ range that were fully programmable, but decided to cheap out with this one and take a chance. Why 3 stars? I HATE when the input plug is counted in the port count. I was suspicious after looking at the pictures that this was the case, but I guess I just wanted to believe there were really 2 high speed, 4 medium speed, and 2 low speed. You have to use one of the high speed ports for the input, leaving you with only one high speed port, when I really could have used two.A second boo for the instructions. Am I the only person who can read anymore? Why are instructions nowadays nothing more than cartoons and pictograms? If all you can offer is a cartoon showing cords flying towards the switch with arrows, then just save the money and leave it out of the package. I can figure that much out on my own, thank you.
