Great Entry Or Medium Level Kit - Fairly Priced
I have needed a chamfer set like this for a long time. It’s not something I will use regularly, but when needed it really comes in handy. I have a friend who owns a metal fabrication company and these bits aren’t of the quality he uses in his machine shop, but for the occasional home workshop user, these should do great. The bits are reasonably sharp and the craftsmanship is good. This is a very versatile kit... covering just about any need I would have. The eight wood plug bits are actually really good. I tried out the largest bit on a piece of 2” x 4” pressure treated lumber and it worked great.Everything comes packaged in a nice plastic storage case that securely latches... and the slotted foam inside safely keeps all of the pieces in their place. For the price, this is a decent value.

The Right Tool
The MARSBASE Woodworking Drill Bit Set ($29.99), made in China and sold in the U.S. by Monkey Tools, is a 26-piece collection of popular types of woodworking bits for drill-based chamfers, countersink guide holes, and wood plug holes; metal step bits; and a center punch drill start marker. Also included is an Allen wrench for adjusting the countersink drill bit lengths. The set comes in a plastic, hinged case with the bits packed in cut-to-fit, closed-cell foam. There are times when working in a woodshop can be similar to working on a computer. Getting a program, a utility, or an app to do what you want, or sometimes nothing more than what the manual says it should, can occasionally require contriving a workaround, a tweaking of this or that element. Like using Snippet to get something off the web that won’t print and putting it in a Doc, then printing it. You may feel a sense of accomplishment in the process, but it’s a hassle, forcing the expenditure of valuable resources—time is money, remember—that should not be necessary. This can happen in a woodshop, too, when a perfect tool for a project, say, building a fence for a router table, is one yet to be added to the array hanging on the garage wall or the snake pit of sundry attachments in the top drawer of the tool chest. There’s usually something that can be made to do the job, kinda. Like using multiple cuts on a table saw for a dado joint. But having the right tool for a job makes it all go smoothly. The MARSBASE bit set provides several of those “right” tools. The countersinks are among the favorites for this garage woodshop. The drill bits adjust for depth. The countersink piece has a bit of a sleeve on the shaft that helps open a guide hole for better positioning of the screw. If all that’s needed is a surface countersink, the drill-based chamfer bits fill in nicely. One note on that: The chamfer bits are not the router type, just beware. The wood plug cutters can do double duty, not only help build, but also, repair. For instance, clearing out a finishing plug in a dining room chair to give access to the screws holding the chair together but that finally need tightening. There’s no immediate need in this garage woodshop for all the tools in the MARSBASE set. But when there is, it’ll be a happy time to open the MARSBASE case and take out the right one for the job.

Good tool set
I've only been able to use these a few times since they were delivered. So far they have worked great and appear to be made well. Love that the set comes in a case just makes it easier to keep up with it. I do believe these will last awhile, well at least for me they will as I won't be using them on a daily basis. Overall I am happy with my order and would recommend this set.

50/50 Metal/Wood bits | Not for quality woodworking
I've been woodworking for over 50 years and this set is okay for the infrequent woodworker, if you're working with high quality hard woods I would not use this set.To start, this is a combination wood and metal set. There are 5 step (Uni-bit) drill bits and a center punch all of which are 100% for metal. The ad photos even show them cutting through metal. The center punch is a snap type (metal). I used the step bits a few times and compared to others I have these dulled fairly quickly. The Plug cutters are all of standard sizes which is good however; in my opinion dulled quickly which starts to rip the wood vice cut. The chamfer bits (6 total) in my opinion are meant for metal and NOT titanium. Although, they could work sufficiently for wood. The five countersink bits are okay and do the job even though one of the bit snapped.I would not recommend this set for quality wood working however; it is an okay disposable metal/wood bit set.

Questionable quality
My first comment is on the Automatic Center Punch. I used it three times and it stopped working. I took it apart, looking for any machining burrs or something that may have caused it to bind, but did not see anything. After reassembling and assembling about 6 times, it finally started working again. I don't trust it will last at this point, but maybe there was a burr that made it get stuck when depressed. On to the bits: I only tested the wood bits, as I have no metal that needs a hole at the moment, and they didn't seem to do too well. I tested on some dry red cedar and they seemed to struggle. One of the bits performed very poorly, wanting to smoke more than cut, and burned the bit. I did notice the bottoms of the bits are not consistent, and the shape may have contributed to its poor performance. See pictures.I did not test the countersink bits, although the hex wrench that came with it seems a bit sloppy, so I don't even know if it's really the correct size. Overall, I'm not impressed.
