Intense and Heartbreaking with all the Viking Battles You Could Ask For
“I am yours and you are mine, even if we’re the only ones that know it.”Children of the Gods are unfated, yet it doesn’t seem like they get to make many choices. Freya least of all. Her love for her family and clan are continually used against her. She’s furious, bold, and occasionally brash, but still young enough to be manipulated while being a true warrior at heart.Vikings are notorious so it’s no surprise the entire plot is built around battles, rage, and the quest for glory. Even the magic system, which was admittedly unique and interesting, was based on the premise of helping the characters achieve glory and spread their fame with acts of violence or responses to it.Dreams of battle glory and Valhalla are utmost on most of the characters' minds, even after their stomachs turn from the effects of war. It’s a main focus of the book from start to finish. The characters' fervor for it irked me at times just as Freya’s naïveté and soft heart frustrated me. Overall, I genuinely liked her character and Bjorn’s, especially their relationship. However, their characters have a lot of room to develop in the next volume, and I for one can’t wait for it.Audio & Narrator🎧The audiobook for this added a fun and immersive feel to the story. The narrator had a norse accent that sounded believable and interesting. The volume and pace remained steady and easy to follow along with, and the perfect amount of excitement and inflection was used for each scene.Hardcover Book 📘The edges are gorgeous with a metallic blue sheen and the interior formatting is beautiful.Fun Bits:⚜️ Action packed and full of adventure⚜️ Really cool magic system⚜️ Lots of Norse Mythology⚜️ An interesting romance⚜️ Extremely fierce FMC✨Beware the cliffyPay attention to the CWsStats📊Spice: 🌶️🌶️Characters: 💙💙💙💙Audio: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧Narrators: 🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️Historical Fantasy: Vikings, Norse Legends, Magic, Fighting Fate, Warring Clans, Hidden Secrets📘First Person, Past Tense, Single POV

Life-Long Fan Status Acquired
A Fate Inked In Blood... Where do I even begin...First I have absolutely loved Danielle L. Jenson's writing and the way she builds characters from the first few pages of The Bridge Kingdom. Jenson crafts truly empathetic characters full of sass and cheek but also characters of pain, loss, trauma but also of characters of love, strength, healing and passion. A Fate Inked in Blood is absolutely no different. Freya and Bjorn are rich, deep characters in a world with familiar and unfamiliar lore. The two are surrounded but uncertainty, as most are when trying to determine the "will of the Gods" but also because of the large cast of selfish, self-serving, dominating, power hungry characters surrounding them. From the beginning Freya is deemed a woman who dreams of glory and battle but has little real experience of the fear and violence one suffers as a warrior due to her mostly lonely life. Upon entering the world of violent attacks by neighboring clans and the constant threat of death of her family, friends and even herself, Freya learns quickly that she is strong and can protect herself but that she also has a lot to learn about the price and sacrifice of battle and temptation to give into vengeance. Bjorn offers wisdom and guidance through flirtation, passion and dedication to protect Freya and see her find happiness and success. Freya learned from Bjorn and grows because of his support and confidence in her; but truly by the end of the novel, I do believe Bjorn grows and heals MORE because of Freya's influence. I am so excited to see how future books add to their journey.Second, who doesn't love a fantasy novel but with heavy Viking elements and world building? I've always been fascinated by Viking lore and some of my favorite films/shows are heavily influenced by the culture (cue How to Train Your Dragon). The mix of magical gifts and powerful, compassionate and vengeful Gods heightens the tension surrounding this journey and the overall development of these characters individually and together.Third, a significant theme in this book is based on trust, honesty, loyalty and the manipulation/use of others for personal gain. Freya like many FMC before her, has lived a life determined by what she could give, do for, provide for and sacrifice for others (a very standard life for women early on in these novels). For many readers, this is an easy character arch to support because absolutely no one wants or enjoys being lied to, used and manipulated. Every turn of this novel, you are reminded that Freya has never lived for herself and perhaps doesn't really know how to but deserves every opportunity to follow a path for herself and see where it leads.Fourth, can we talk about the push and pull these two wayyy to beautiful and passionate characters have to deal with. From the first meeting of Bjorn (holy hell talk about a sexy description) and his flirty swagger, I knew Freya was absolutely done for; I mean few could withstand a warrior with charm and passion! The growth of their relationship before anything became physical in any way provides a feeling of depth and strength to their connection that supersedes typical romantasy love and forms something stronger and more significant especially when coupled with the lore. And I loved the tiny payoffsat so many of the small, subtle instances leading up to the big beautiful one filled with just the best declaration I've ever read. Despite challenges arising and that love having very little time to blossom before situations change drastically, I'm fully invested on Team Freyorn and I know that they will be endgame... I will not be taking questions at this time.Fifth and Final, can we, for a moment talk about the "villains" (if you can even really call them that since there are many villainous characters but not one clear "Big Baddie" ). This book and adventure is filled with untrustworthy, powerful, and mostly male "authorities" which continue to make every day life absolutely impossible AND infuriating for Freya, Bjorn and for ME! They are written to be the exact right balance of terrifyingly powerful and slimy all at the same exact time. There wasn't a single moment I did furrow my brow or scoff in frustration when any of these villainous douch coppers were on the page. I mean just go away and let the women show you how it done! And seriously her brother, Geir, can F right off as can most of the men from her life before she is designated the Shield Maiden. Just boo, hiss, gag, scoff, massive eye roll, for all these terrible, chauvinistic men in this world and their determination to hide Freya's light and power! All in all: 5/5A+100%MVPGold StarZero notes for Danielle L. Jenson and Fate Inked in Blood: Book One of the Saga of Unfated.Bring me the next book whenever you see fit, just know I will preorder it, own it on my Kindle AND in multiple hard copy editions because you have solidified my life-long fan status.

I don't know what to say
I read a review the other day that said "I wanted a fierce FMC and all I got was an annoying female that pukes for everything." I won't lie that it was the first thing that came to my mind when I finished this book.I have also seen reviews claiming how predictable it was and the truth is that it was. I enjoyed the setting and overall the story is unique and different. However, this has to be the first book where I hated all the characters (was that intended?)The back and forth between the characters and their drama got tiresome so quickly. The FMC started strong and awesome and relatable but there were so many times that I wished I could just shake her and let's talk about that ending. I have read it before. Not all was bad, there were parts of the book that I enjoyed. The last scenes where the MC finally got together felt so awkward and out of place.I don't know, I have confounding feelings about this book. I won't be picking up the second one.

My love of this book is complicated
I had never read anything by this author before but was drawn in by the premise and a romance novel is far from my preference but I devoured this thing in a couple weeks which for me is a fast read. Throughout the book I hated multiple characters, but knew that was probably intentional which is a strength of the story. I was not having a good time for so much of it but I kept going. The story is labeled as book one so you know there's going to be more. There is a point where I told myself the story could end where I was and it would be a good ending, but seeing as it is book one I knew there had to be setup for more books. The story is strong and full of characters I hated, and the romance is fine although not my interest. Interested to see where the story goes from here, and I will say I loved the book and would recommend it to a lot of people especially if like me romance isn't your cup of tea.

Vikings and Norse gods
I really liked this book! There was romantic tension throughout the book, but I would only give it one 🌶️ on a spice level. I liked the ending, the story of it, but I did'nt like Freyas stubborness! She hated Snorri, why could she not accept what Bjorn had to say... Im so mad at Freya. I did'nt like that it ended the way it did. But I guess its because it will come a sequel..

A NEW AUTO BUY AUTHOR!
This is my first norse/viking culture & mythology inspired read and it was so refreshing being swallowed by an entire new world. I loved every second of it! The magic system and the involvement of gods was very interesting and I am very excited to going out more in the next book!Loved the dynamic between the FMC & MMC, great banter/angst & chemistry!

Vikings and Norse Mythology
It's been ages since I've been so excited for a new releaseI immediately started reading when the book arrived and it was absolutely worth it.Since I'm a huge fan of the show Vikings I knew I'd love the world the story is set in.The magical/fantastical touch, with the godly gifted people made it the perfect book. The MC are just great and work perfectly together. Freya is a strong and fierce woman who fights for the ones close to her. Bjorn is charming but also caring and determined to protect Freya from harm. I love how their friendship developed throughout their journey. It was enthralling and exciting to the end.I just know this will be one of my new favourite serieses.
