Handle came off, belt loosens and won’t stay put
July 2023While I thought this gait belt was great at first, over time one of the handles came off and the gait belt wouldn’t stay tight. If I had to hold up my dad’s weight with it, it would just slowly come undone (over the course of 30 seconds to a minute) and then there would be nothing g holding him. The fact that we could see and feel it loosening gave us time to pull up the wheelchair or sit him back down on the bed but yikes!Original review July 2021Assuming if you are looking at gait belts, you are familiar with how to use them and what they are used for, etc.I really like this one. It is wider than the traditional gait belts making it less likely to press sharply into my dad’s back when he is getting up. The quick release clip, is so much better than the buckle type of gait belt. On and off, I get zero drool on my hands from my dad’s Parkinson’s symptoms. The handles going vertical and horizontal are very helpful and they are easy to grab. This would work well for the caregiver to wear and the patient to grab onto as well. Also with the belt being blue and the handles black, it is easy to spot the handles!

Good for helping those that may need occasional assistance to stand or walk safely
This review is for the Transfer Belt Gait Belt Walking with 6 Plastic Padded Caregiver Handles. If you are currently grabbing someone by their pants band/belt to help them stand or keep their balance when walking, read on… This product is a much better alternative. This gait belt is well-made, and can really help caregivers with patients or family members who made need occasional assistance to stand or walk, aiding them in maintaining balance. It is made of strong material for support, and has 6 rubber handles, 3 on each side so that two people can provide assistance at the same time. There are 4 vertically oriented handles, and 2 horizontal oriented handles, so you can choose whichever one provides the best stable support for the situation. Each one has reinforced stitching to prevent tearing when used. The belt itself is 4” wide at the largest point, has a large snap buckle that is simple to connect and release, and is very adjustable to cover a wide-range of body sizes, with a hard-plastic loop clip that keeps the extra belt length from flapping loosely for smaller body sizes.Hopefully this is a product that most people will never need, but if you do work as a caregiver professional or have family members that need extra assistance at times, this is a good option to have on-hand to help keep them and you safer when assisting.

Convenient to use with a variety of handles. But it is plastic feeling-not cotton webbing.
There are only a couple of quibbles. I do not like the way this plastic feels in my hands (as the handler). I also do not prefer the plastic clip attachment, since plastic always seems less sturdy than metal. So while it is easier to get on and off - using the plastic clip that is already set to the proper waist size ahead of time - I still miss the metal-buckle/webbing approach. And if you use this on two different-sized-people, you will have to resize the buckle placement for the proper waist fit. There are so many places to grab onto this (6 different hand holds are sewn into the belt) and it is maybe an inch wider than the cotton-web-gait-belt I use now, that that could be a good thing, if I had to use more than one person to help to get someone standing from a slip-to-the-floor situation.

Well Made and Sturdy, Very Portable
I have used gait belts many times with elderly people, and it was great to find this one with both horizontal and vertical handles. SO much better than just a belt alone. I really like the idea in the product video of using two belts, one on the patient and one on the caregiver, so that the patient also has something steady to grip as they are being assisted to a standing or sitting position. Even with just a belt on the patient, though, this transfer and gait belt makes assisting someone a ton easier. The pair of side-by-side vertical handles on both the right and left in the back provides an extra element of safety, especially when helping an extra heavy person. The buckle is heavy duty plastic and looks like it will hold up well with reasonable care. It is easy to lock securely and unlock. The seams on this belt are nice and strong, as is the nylon belt itself. I have no problem adjusting the belt size to fit snugly. This belt is easy to fold and store when not needed, and will easily fit in a piece of luggage, a backpack, or a tote bag if traveling with someone who needs it. This belt is a valuable tool for anyone caring for someone who is weak, fragile, or otherwise unable to be safely and independently mobile.

The idea of having some handles is better in theory than in practice
I really thought this gait belt would be easier and more comfortable to use than those basic nylon belts that you always see being used at hospitals, care facilities, and home healthcare professionals. I know that the simpler the tools the better for the professionals that have been taught to use them but having real handles that are molded would benefit the layperson that is using this to help a family member that is in need of assistance at home. After trying this out, I have found that the belt must still be work high up and close to the armpits to be useful. If you try to wear it low and above the waist it tends to dig into the ribcage when you really need to try to support someone's full body weight. And when you have the belt up high, you really loose and advantage of the handles because you no longer have any leverage. This is a well made product and it was a good attempt but I could not use this product with any real comfort for the helper or the wearer. After being taught to use the standard gait belt and the proper techniques, it actually works much better.

Gait belt
Was a great belt until i used it for only the second time to lift a client of the floor at work and some of the stitching has come undone. While I was lifting him up we heard a rip sound. Not very happy with it.
