It is a book that give you sort of idea but it's not so rich in clear informations. a lot of "but's" and "if's". Good for just sailing fun.

Die Fülle von Informationen in diesem Buch haben für mich etliche Puzzlestücke zusammengefügt. Häufig wurde mir klar, warum Yachten auf eine bestimmte Art gebaut werden, und welche Ziele dahinterstehen. Das hilft auch dabei, mit dem Boot richtig umzugehen, d.h. besser zu segeln! Ich würde soweit gehen es als Pflicht-Lektüre für Segler zu bezeichnen. Einschränkend ist vielleicht zu erwähnen: - Das Englisch ist recht knackig. Für viele Begriffe musste ich einige Zeit nach der korrekten deutschen Übersetzung suchen. - Der Aufbau ist etwas unstrukturiert. Beispielsweise lässt sich das Kapitel 2 über die "Hull Shapes" ohne die Informationen in Kapitel 3 über "Lines Drawing" nicht ordentlich verstehen. - Es wird natürlich auch über Motorboote gesprochen. Das ist nicht mein Interesse, hilft aber das Thema im Gesamten zu verstehen.

the content of this book is fantastic, with clear explanations of the fundamentals of boat design. However, the 4th edition copy that I've ordered twice was missing the same pages in both copies. At the end of a critical chapter on interpreting line drawings, two pages are omitted.
