Product Description Three adventures featuring Agatha Christie's Belgian supersleuth, Hercule Poirot (David Suchet). In 'Mrs McGinty's Dead', when James Bentley (Joe Absolom) is arrested for the murder of old Mrs McGinty, it seems like an open and shut case. But Superintendent Spence (Richard Hope) isn't convinced and calls on Poirot to try and track down the real killer. 'Cat Among the Pigeons' begins when elderly school headmistress, Miss Bulstrode (Harriet Walter), is warned by a parent that she has recognised somebody at the school from her days in the intelligence service. A murder soon follows, and Poirot is on hand to try to solve it. Finally, in 'Third Girl', when a young woman visits Poirot to get his help regarding a murder that she believes she has committed, she is shocked by his age and leaves without telling her story. Poirot is keen to track her down and establish whether she is guilty, innocent or just plain insane. Synopsis More mysterious adventures from the pen of Agatha Christie, featuring everyone's favourite Belgian super sleuth, Hercule Poirot. In MRS. MCGINTY'S DEAD, Poirot is talked in to investigating the barbaric murder of an old woman, seemingly motivated by financial gain. However, as is usually the case, all is not as not as clear cut as it seems. CAT AMONG THE PIGEONS takes at Meadowbank School For Girls, where a killer is at large. In THIRD GIRL, a young woman seeks out Poirot to investigate a crime she believes she has committed. But just as she sparks his interest, the woman disappears, leaving him to attempt to uncover her identity. The set is completed with 'Appointment with Death'. A must-own for any Poirot fan.

Good, but more formulaic than ever before
Another excellent collection of Poirot episodes. The character is becoming increasingly devout as the episodes progress, and is taking a particular interest in the fate of his murderers after accusation - a preoccupation with death that fits the more contemplative mood of the aging sleuth. I especially liked the moment in Appointment with Death where a scream rattles out and the camera, focuses on Poirot who utters, 'So it begins'.Unfortunately the DVD contains no special features, which were a welcome addition to the previous collection. The quality is generally good, though Appointment with Death feels a little bit like a compilation of several earlier episodes. The problem is there's now a clear formula for calculating whodunnit. If a character is ever a) implicated in the crime or b) seen doing something suspicious during the episode, they are innocent. By the end of each episode this leaves usually 1 or 2 people in the cast who seem to be out of place, who have no obvious motive, no association with the crime and who you sometimes forget exist. As improbable as it seems, they are always the murderer. Try it. Pause before the reveal. Go through the main cast. Have they been implicated in any way? (That is, have they said they wished the deceased dead, or did any of the clues suggest their involvement?) They are innocent. Whoever is left will be guilty. It works every time.I hope the collection 8 episodes are less formulaic.

Agatha Christie's Poirot - collection 7.
if like myself you have watched David Suchet portray Hercule Poirot from the very beginning here is another chance to revel in television nostalgia at it's absolute best. each episode is set apart from the rest and sit back and relax as you view Poirot solve crime after crime and see the criminals attempt to get away with the said crime they have committed, here is presented four glorious stories on four discs for adults of all ages to enjoy over and again.

Worth the wait
Praise has been heaped upon this (relatively) new production. Like the other reviewers I have greatly enjoyed the four films. Pity that we have to do without Hastings, Japp, et naturellement, Miss Lemon, but Suchet is still brilliant as Poirot, though his presence is rather reduced compared to earlier series. As a result, Poirot's little idiosyncracies become less obvious. As to picture quality, well, it is extraodinarily good, with strong, natural colours and 16 : 9 format. Irritating are, however, certain artefacts, i.e. "halos", when light falls on bright surfaces. Apart from that the DVDs almost match Blueray discs as far as image quality is concerned.

Seasons/Collections - don't mix then find you've matched
Great dvd, but be aware that there is a set of SEASONS (13 of these) and a set of COLLECTIONS (9 of these). SEASON 12, for example, contains the same 4 episodes as COLLECTION 8. Stick to one set or the other then never the twain shall duplicate.

Greatest of the great detectives...
I've always felt that they did a wonderful job in creating this series. Yes,despite having seen most of these episodes before,it's nice to have them at home to enjoy again.
