Real Talk - This Thing Is FANTASTIC - 2500 mile road trip with a 4 year old tested and APPROVED
Bought this for my 4 year old daughter to give her some entertainment options on an 2500 mile road trip.At first I was concerned that the restrictions on the kids version would prevent me from being able to install Disney+ and Plex, but this was not the case. Both installed and work flawlessly as did the Youtube App. It's a safe bet that any 3rd party aps on the amazon store can be installed on the kids version but only with parental approval, which I like. The battery survived a 14.5 hour drive being used roughly 80% of the time. I was absolutely blown away by the battery in this tablet. I expected to have to charge it on the road, and ordered extra long cables for that purpose, but I never needed to. It easily took on 10+ hours of streaming video from Disney+ without needing to be charged. The sound is good but we have kids blue-tooth headphones for my daughter to use so we didn't really use the speakers at all.The picture quality is good, PLENTY of resolution for a child and really more than enough for all but the most snobbish adults. Disney animated movies look great streaming at high resolution. The WiFi is solid, plenty of speed for constant streaming from my 5G hotspot without any buffering/loading issues. It supports both 2.4 and 5G connections which is good for flexibility and performance. The kid-proof case is a very nice edition. My daughter held it with ease and though it did get dropped once or twice never got so much as a scratch thanks to that case.It is also surprisingly lightweight. For something with such an outstanding battery it weighs very little which is great for smaller kids with smaller hands.I really only have two complaints with the tablet.1. It's annoying to have to switch to a parental profile to connect to a new WiFi network. When you attempt to do this on the child's profile it will ask for your code making you think that you can just enter the code and connect to the new network. That is how it SHOULD work, but it does not. You must switch to an entirely different profile, find and connect to the new wifi network, then switch back.2. The tablet does not have the performance I would like to see, likely due to the processor that Amazon chose. The performance lags noticeably when switching between apps and especially when switching between profiles (see my note about about having to change profiles to change wifi networks). It's not horrible mind you, but in this day and age we have come to expect smoother performance. You will not have any issues once you get your apps loaded and going though, which is good. All in all I would 100% recommend this to anyone who is considering it for your child for something like a crazy long road trip. Now that the trip is over the tablet is retired until our next long road trip as the dangers of too much screen time, and electronic devices for young children in general are well documented, but I will update again in a year or so when we get it out of retirement for our next vacation.

Great tablet
My youngest kids 6&7 both have one. Works great and has tons of apps you can download. They can also watch their favorite amazon prime cartoons on it. And you can set parental controls, and approve or deny any app before it's installed

love this so much
I literally can't say enough good things about this. This is such an upgrade to the previous ones. I bought this for my 2 year old in July for his birthday. I figured it was a good inexpensive option. My 7 year old has an Apple iPad, and I couldn't justify spending the money on one of them for him, I didn't see much toddler friendly games that really locked in without having the screen lock on & I wasn't spending the money just for him to be trapped into 1 game at a time. I bought a kids fire tablet probably 5-6 years ago for my daughter and it was HORRIBLE. It was the most awful thing I ever purchased. I ended up giving it to my brother to use in a halfway house, because I couldn't care less what happened to the hunk of junk. I was super nervous to purchase this after that first one, but I figured, what the hell.. they had literal years to work on the things. And I wouldnt be too upset if this thing sucked and I lost out on the money, as it wasn't much. I AM SO HAPPY I MADE THE CHOICE, AND GAVE THIS A SECOND CHANCE. This thing has been thrown, dropped from shopping carts, stood on, bounced down steps and everything else a 2 year old boy could do to this thing. NOT A SCRATCH. I love the free time app for kids, he is entertained for hours. This thing goes all day long some times and the battery life is amazing. the content is super appropriate, and I swear this thing has been a blessing in disguise. My husband and I have went back and forth, he didn't allow him to have a tablet, and I didnt really care. My son knows every shape, color, piece of heavy machinery, dinosaur, and so many other things from the kids apps that are downloaded in free time. he can solve puzzles and so many other things in the blink of an eye, because of this thing. No we aren't parents who let their kids be face first in electronics all day, everyday, but neither of my kids have issues putting them down to play with something else. I 100% recommend this to everyone who asks about tablets for their younger kids.
