Effective with solid construction.
It's getting to that time of year where we're going to get more rain and mud, bringing the inevitable soggy shoes!! I've always just stuck them onto a radiator but is this mains powered shoe heater a better option? The design of the heaters is well thought out. You get two heaters, made of a durable plastic with what looks like a heating element inside, the plastic effectively creates a void area for the heat to circulate and prevent the elements from coming into contact with the fabric of your shoes etc.The product is very easy to use, simply push one element into each shoe, then click the one button on the power cord, one click starts it on the default time setting, subsequent presses cycle through the three timer options of 3, 6 or 9 hours.I tried these on damp shoes and they did a decent job. The temperature rose instantly and seemed to climb consistently to just over 53c in around 13min, more than enough to dry your shoes. I can't say that I noticed a reduced smell to using a radiator, but I'd assume the heat they create would help to break down bacteria?Overall, I'd say that although these aren't a breakthrough to a radiator, they do seem more effective, and ultimately they will be more cost effective if you don't need your home heating on when you want to dry your shoes. Priced at £22.99, with a £3 off voucher at the time of ordering, I feel that these offer reasonable value and provide an efficient way to dry your footwear between uses.

Why Do We Need This?
Well, it's obvious why some people might need this...They go out in the rain, hiking in the mountains, or running in the rain, and they need to get their shoes ready for the next day of hiking. Climbing into wet shoes is uncomfortable, and is more likely to lead to injuries, skin problems, and (worst of all) smelly feet !!!I did wonder after ordering, but before receiving it, whether there was a fan inside which blew warm air around.Actually no - it is just a heating element, which you push down into the depths of your shoe, and the warmth of the element dries your shoes, by local contact. The temperature apparently gets up to 55C, which is hot enough to be painful if you hold it for a long time - so don't hold it for a long time !!A timer is part of the control unit on the wire - it selects 3hrs, 6hrs, & 9hrs, based on how wet your shoes are, and what material they are made from.It seems likely, if used well, that if you put the shoe drier in your shoes last thing at night, that most wet shoes would be dry in the morning. The plastic certainly felt quite hot to the touch after 5 mins of heating. I did have an impression that 1 side of 1 element was a little cooler than the 3 other sides.I also have a feeling that if parts of the shoe are wet but the element is not in contact with that wet bit, that those bits will dry much more slowly. The element is 17 x 6.5cm in size, so significantly smaller than most adult shoes. You should probably push the element in as far it will go into the shoe, as it is those bits which will dry most slowly. The heel is more open to the air anyway, and so will evaporate dampness faster for that reason. So, in conclusion, and interesting product, useful for some people, and at a price which is not unreasonable.Alternatively, you can always consider doing what I have done for years - put the shoes on a radiator, or inside the cylinder cupboard.
