A Book to Live By
Excellent commentary by Maharishi on the first six chapters of the Bhagavad-Gita. The story of the greatest archer of his time, ARJUNA on the Battlefield of Life poised to fight the battle of good against evil.Perplexed on having to kill the evil enemy which just happens to be his kinsmen, he hesitates, trying to find the next move that will create good and not evil. He turns to his charioteer, KRISHNA to solve is problem on what to do.And, so Krishna reveals to Arjuna the secrets of life and the universe on that very battlefield as the two armies face off ready to fight.Maharishi comments on each verse and describes thoughts and impressions that man has mistaken for thousands of years regarding their true meaning. What it means to truly live, life’s true purpose, and reveals to Arjuna how to touch the very face of GOD.

A book that changed the direction of my life
A textbook of life. The first edition of this book I bought in the late ‘70’s changed the direction of my life. This copy I bought is a Kindle edition I can refer to when I need it.. everything Maharishi said made sense to m. It was what my life was looking for. It has the profoundest and most straightforward understanding of life and living. In a sense, it completed my search for knowledge. It is a western version of the knowledge contained in the Bhagavad Gita.. For readers who are not yet exposed to Eastern Philosophy, this is it’s westernized understanding.

A rich, nuanced commentary on a classic work of Vedic literature
The Bhagavad Gita at first seems like a small story from an epic poem, the Mahabharata. It tells about a great warrior, Arjuna, and his talk with Lord Krishna at the eve of a great battle between the virtuous Pandavas and the evil Kurus.Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the teacher who brought the Transcendental Meditation technique to the world, has a few things to say about this work. He finds deep and profound meaning in it, and carefully and systematically brings then out in his unique and ground-breaking commentary. We learn that the knowledge Lord Krishna imparts to Arjuna includes the technique for transcending, also know as Transcendental Meditation. We learn that this technique has been misunderstood over and over again in many different religions and philosophies, especially after the great teachers and saints who started those traditions were no longer around to maintain the purity and simplicity of the technique.

Jai Guru Dev !
HH Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ji's teachings can be understood fully only when one practices with Sharadha and experience in ones own State of Being. (Not meant for reading and understanding mentally. Dual nature of mind can not understand it).भारतीय आध्यात्मिकता का आत्मसात करने वाले साधक को यह विद्या उसे द्वैत म्नस्थिति से उपर उठाकर, उसके जीवन / प्राण के सार त्तव (सच्चिदानन्द ) का ज्ञान कराकर, संपूर्ण ब्राहमंड/ स्रष्टी ओर इसके रचायमान दैवीय स्रोत के साथ एकाकार की ओर ले जाती है !Sanatana Vedic Dharma Knowledge and techniques from India, when practiced and assimilated in one's being truthfully, make a human rise above the dualistic mind and realize the essence/true nature of life i.e. Sat-Chit-Ananda, and leads one towards realized unison with the manifest universe and its source, the Divine !

The Most Eloquent
Even though only six chapters, this has the most eloquent verbatim from the Sanskrit. Most translators project their own mind on to the text and confuse readers by using the wrong connotations and are sometimes totally wrong! "Traduttore traditore".

A focused teaching, and not just a translation
Yes. Finally a direct view of the Gita written by an eastern author, for western audiences.

Important translation
This translation is by one of the most important Indian teachers of the "Vedic Rennaissance" in the late 20th century. Highly insightful and sometimes revolutionary in its insights about reviving the traditional understanding in a modern context. Strongly recommended for the commentary.

So intelligent!
To fully enjoy this masterful book, I guess you'd have to practise Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation because it's all about the implications of experiencing your inner Being in a natural way. The first chapter is hard going because of all the ancient names and families ... but gripping as it sets out the big question: what can a human being do when faced with a rock and a hard place? It's both very old and utterly up-to-date. Then the answer in terms of the fundamental experience of daily transcendance to give fulfilment to the mind ... it's deeply moving and satisfying. The answers to questions about death, suffering, duty, war, "karma", desire, happiness ...intellectually satisfying in the extreme. Questions asked with total openness, and answered with great care and thoroughness.
