Love this great little computer!
This review is for the UM790 Pro Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS DDR5 32GB 1TB configuration.First and foremost, I did not purchase this computer for gaming. I needed a machine that took very little desk space, could efficiently transpile TypeScript React projects, easily power two+ monitors, and above all, run near silent. I’m tired of PC fan noise. In fact, fan noise is what started my journey to begin with. As a perk, it would be able to easily handle 40+ tracks of audio with effects in Reaper DAW.I spent time looking at fanless PC’s from silentpc dot com, Beelink mini PC’s, some beefy fanless machines from OnLogic, Intel NUC, and a handful of others. I even considered an Apple Mac Mini. The only reason I didn’t go Mac is the risk of breaking my web development toolchain, NodeJS and hundreds of little NPM packages.I was admittedly nervous about ordering a PC from a Chinese based company for support reasons. You can save a hundred or so dollars ordering it direct from China but the returns and support process worried me. Ordering from Amazon provided a safe 30 day return window and convenient drop off locations at a UPS or Kohls store. The Intel NUC PC looked promising but as soon as it was turned on it ran loud. Constantly ramping fan speed up and down even while it was idling. I immediately returned it.The first order of this configuration of the UM790 had hardware issues. Over its first two weeks of use there were several random BSOD’s (blue screens of death – a hard crash requiring a reboot). It was otherwise perfect, meeting all of my requirements. I had to exchange it for a new one. So happy for that 30 day return window! I ‘ve used the new unit now for over a month and it doesn’t have the same hardware problems. It hasn’t crashed at all.Overall, I’m extremely happy with this PC. It is very quiet! Even when the fan spins up it’s hardly noticeable. As an aside, this item often (every few weeks) goes on sale for 20% off so if you have time, watch it for a while and wait for a sale. Your welcome.

Dead on arrival
So I'll just start by saying that the PC never powered on.I was intensely excited to receive this product. It was delayed in shipping, which was tolerable and when it did arrive it wasn't until almost 10pm, again tolerable. After opening the outermost packaging I noticed the product packaging was damaged as depicted. Also there seems to be a gap in the packaging where the product can move around. I had a bad feeling after seeing the damage. Sure enough after I set the PC up and was ready to power it up it turned out to be a dud. It never came on, nothing not even a glimmer of power. The power brick is getting power as far as I can tell because the LED indicator turns on but the PC will not power on or show any sign of life. This was a huge disappointment and now I have to return it and wait for my refund to process which could take weeks. In the mean time I'm out over $700.Now I'm debating to attempt to buy another or spend a little more and build a PC.

Powerful for its size
Had this a few weeks now and I love it! Onboard graphics handles EVE Online on all high settings, even better through an external 7800 XT connected via USB4

Keeps crashing and rebooting
It arrived yesterday and I got it set up with no problem. However, it will work briefly, then crash and rebooting, coming up in its settings screen. I am trying to run diagnostics, but so far no luck. I am going to hope it will be stable enough for me to remove my password for windows, etc., then return it. Very frustrating. If I learn more about the problem, I will update this review.

Runs Fast And Quiet!
RE: MINISFORUM Venus Series UM790 Pro Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS DDR5 32GB 1TBThis is the second one of this model I have purchased. The first one arrived with unresponsive USB-A ports. I had to return it. The second one so far, runs fast and quiet. All my peripherals connect just fine. Aside from a few deeply buried Win11 settings, it's really a dream to work with. I highly recommend this little unit.

It's OK but not as good as the HX99G
Was hoping it would be faster than the HX99G due to the new AMD processor but it's not and still hits lags or temp freezes when playing music, video (YouTube) and Photoshop at the same time, whereas there's no freeze on the HX99G or any laptop with a dedicated graphics card. So I guess if Minisforum decides to make a model using the new AMD processor with a dedicated graphics card, it'll be a lot faster and better.

Overall looks good with a powerful chipset
However .. the WIFI is unusable, unless I remove the bottom plastic cover and hang it away from the aluminum case. The USB ports will cause Win11 to hang where the mouse pointer barely moves everytime I plug an external SSD drive to it. BIOS is another poorly design with very limited options. Not very practical, but will make a nice TV-box for storing and watching movies. ZERO CUSTOMER SUPPORT and crappy customer relations.
