Unfortunately I don't have any unused/spare Cat5 cable going to that location, but using this network+POE splitter I was able to connect two POE security cameras to a single cable. The splitter acts as a network switch, also it provides POE power to 2 downstream devices using upstream POE source. Since upstream POE source can be POE+ (802.3at), power budget is 30 watt, providing 12-13 watt per downstream POE device - more than enough for most security cameras. The splitter is compact, I was able to hide it inside the junction box, making it clean installation. Review: This PoE extender is a Beast... - Truth be told, having tried a more expensive option that had intermittent signal loss, I was skeptical when I purchased this PoE extender as a replacement for exterior cams. Wow.. Not only has this PoE extender been a solid connection, but it does what most do not, it brings the power. Prior versions (different manufacturers just didnt have quite the juice to run the cams and still allow the NVR's to consistently stream high res data packets, plus two way talk, etc etc etc. The cam is 250' from the PoE switch (which didnt have enough juice on this homerun to pull a signal), but with this beast of an injector I am running on all cylinders. Just ordered 2 more.
