Seriously worth it
Very informative about a wide range of psychological conditions. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in psychology but also to anyone interested in how their own mind works. Glad I listened.

Intellectually stimulating, packed with insights for practical application
“The New CBT” is a brilliant and insightful book that incorporates principles of evolutionary psychology into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, leading to a new Informed Behavioral Therapy (ICT). As a social psychologist, I found Dr. Abrams’ application of of evolutionary psychology to psychopathology ( eg bipolar disorder, schizophrenia) intellectually fascinating and I appreciated his review of evidence supporting the conclusions. On a personal level, there were several “aha” moments as he elegantly laid out the origins of fear of death, the distinction between feelings and emotions, and how ICT can be incorporated into clinical practice. Clinicians will appreciate the inclusion of case studies that illustrate the latter point, such as a man who struggled with acting out/aggressive behavior but came to a new understanding after ICT. This is a must read for psychologists. Anyone interested in sociobiology regardless of profession will also love this book.

I recommend the book enthusiastically!
Building on earlier research by and with Albert Ellis, Abrams has outlined not just how the techniques used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and its offspring, Informed Cognitive Therapy, have come to be the most effective forms of psychotherapy, but why. And the why is because they are consonant with and supported by fundamental principles of evolutionary psychology.I recommend the book enthusiastically, not just for psychotherapists, but anyone interested in the remarkable progress being made by mental health practitioners.

Retired from law enforcement after 30 years, I have always been interested in psychology and the nature of people. Whether one is in the field of psychology or not, the New CBT book by Dr. MichaelAbrams is insightful and brilliant. I recently discovered CBT after reading a book on Stoicism and highly recommend this book.

Helped as recent law graduate
This is an excellent book written in accessible manner to someone who’s not an expert. As a recent law graduate, the book provided useful insight into the field of cognitive behavioral therapy that will assist me in practice some day.
