Just got these little ones tonight and WOW. I've tried everything to get rid of the aphids on our covered deck with no success. Even power washing does very little for a short time. I can't deal with the aphids climbing on me. It makes my favorite place at home (our deck) completely uncomfortable. No one wants little bugs climbing on them. Especially not the wife that assumes every possible touch is obviously a spider out to get me. So on to the Ladybugs. I waited till the sun was going down, sprayed a bit of mist over most of our deck and nearby tree/grass. I let them go in my flower gardens as well as my deck to make sure they had plenty of room and food. These little babies came out ready to go and immediately started catching aphids. I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled I was to see these ladybugs eat. It was like a personal victory against those creepy pests. If I'm being completely honest, I cheered these ladybugs like I was at a horse race and bet my mortgage on a long shot. You can probably infer my excitement. I put a rug out earlier today for about 30 minutes. When I came back to bring it inside it was covered with hundreds of aphids. So that gives you an idea of the tens of thousands of aphids that have taken up residence on my home and yard. The ladybugs arrived in good condition with the packaging ventilated. There were some that were not alive but it was a very small percentage. It did take a bit for some of the Ladybugs to "wake up" and start moving around but when they did, they started eating soon after. I've warned my husband to stay away from my little friends with his lead blower and watch his step around my new besties. I wish I had done this years ago! My deck is my happy place but the last few weeks it's felt like that itchy feeling you get when someone talks about head lice. Ewww So yeah, my honest review, totally worth every penny!

One and only problem I have, is with the Seller's description/instructions, they make it sound like the bugs can get out of the mesh bag by themselves. They cannot, the opening size if the mesh is too small. If they could, they would escape while they were in the mail. Then the mailman would have a mail truck full of ladybugs, because the shipping box has air ventilation holes. You MUST very very carefully snip open the bag when you're ready for them to be released in the garden/yard. They cannot come out of the bag on their own, they may not even climb out of the bag if you simply cut the bag open. You might even need to cut open the bag on 2-3 sides almost until it's almost completely open for them to finally leave the bag. Or, you can carefully fully cut open one end of the bag, squeeze the sides of the bag very lightly so the cut side pops opens more widely, and they we'll start to run out of the bag. You could also then SOFTLY shake them out, if they need a little help to get moving, or if they're just not simply moving fast enough for your liking LOL Also, they won't live very long if you don't release them within a very few days! You can't feed them nothing but sugar water. They need to eat the aphids and other Leaf-sucking insects for protein, fats, and other nutrients! At my house, I always release all of them at the same time, because I have a lot of trees and shrubs and bushes that are prone to aphid invasion where I live. With the climate changing, my area, in recent years, has gone from a Growing Zone 8 to Zone 10- 11! And this past summer, I think all of my ladybugs got broiled to death in the heat waves. Other than this one complaint I have about the Seller not giving good instructions for releasing the ladybugs, I am very happy with them. I didn't have any dead ones in the bag, they are adorable, and I just love them anyhow. I used to have a zillion ladybugs every year, and larvae everywhere, but they have declined significantly and rapidly over the past 10 years, to where now I rarely had them this year at all. The only way we're going to keep the species alive is because of people who breed them, like this Seller. I also prefer these over the ones you can buy in the plastic cup at your local Big-Name Brand hardware store in the late spring or early summer when they have them available. The store doesn't take care of the ladybugs at all, and they just die.
