Year 2 update: Working great. Left on vacation for a couple of weeks. I live on a property with a lot of mature trees. Direct sunlight to the solar panel is about 4-5 hours daily. If it's sunny. According to weatherunderground.com, we had about 25% clouds, which DID include some rain. Because the predicted weather was no rain, I chose twice a day watering before I left. The unit was verifiably pumping water (after 2 weeks away) when I got home. I'm very satisfied. Last year's review -- This system does exactly what it says it will. It's very reasonably priced. So I give it 5 stars. I do wish it had some additional features, though. So far, it's been working fine for 5 days. See pics for setup. Simple system -- Solar-powered pump plus water distribution lines & fittings. Nice. Quite easy to set up but the directions are not very clear – a translation thing, I think -- and the print size is microscopic (hey I'm a senior citizen; have mercy). But if you understand the overall concept, you'll be fine. I see a few reviews that complain about draining the reservoir, but this shouldn't happen if the water supply reservoir is BELOW the pump and plants, which the directions DO specify (otherwise the water will just siphon out from the reservoir into the plants). I'd like to be able to tell how much charge the battery has at any given time -- so I can experiment with different charging locations. Does it need bright sunlight? Will it charge adequately -- or at all -- on a cloudy day? (Currently under evaluation) Year 2 update -- works fine in my partial sun situation - see above. I wish this system had more variable times and amount deliveries. But the features are 5, 15 or 20 minutes either once a day or twice a day (5 minutes once a day is MORE than enough for my situation). The directions say that the pump delivers about 400 ml/minute, which THE DIRECTIONS also equate to 8 ounces (I'm assuming this is US fluid ounces but Imperial isn't that much different). Well, my conversion tells me 400 ml = 13.5 US fluid ounces (NOT 8 ounces). OK -- so this means if it runs for 5 minutes, it should deliver 2 liters or 68 US fluid ounces -- which I verified as reasonably accurate by collecting the total output a couple of times in a kitchen measuring cup. So then this total amount will be divided by the number of plants that you have -- and each plant gets roughly the same amount of water. It's difficult to get less water into a single plant unless you add more plants -- but you can multiply the amount to a single plant by running several drip lines into it. I wish it would allow me to disable the beeping function when the reservoir is empty. (Year 2 update - It beeps after it shuts off, but doesn't continue. Verdict - satisfactory) Lastly -- make sure you're ready for water OVERFLOW because it waters each plant on your chosen schedule whether it rains or not. I don't think I'd ever try this inside and risk flooding by over-watering unless I had my plants set to drain over a tank that was as big as my water supply. Even for outside, I put my smaller two plants on a tray that drains to the ground (through some wider tubing than what is supplied with this system). Otherwise, any water overage would either spill onto the deck or keep the plants sitting in water (not good for my plants, anyway).

I’m only giving this product one star because, while it worked really well for the first couple of months, it eventually stopped working. The product itself is actually pretty cool when it works. Unfortunately, the customer support has been extremely frustrating. Amazon directed me to contact the company, which I have done, but it takes nearly two days to get a response, and when I finally do, I get a very short response asking, “Have you checked this?” or “Have you tried this?” Yes. I have checked it. I have gone through everything they have asked about and explained in lengthy emails exactly what I have already done. I even attached a photo showing one of the things they keep asking me about, yet they continue to send me the same basic troubleshooting questions instead of actually addressing the problem. I have also asked for a replacement, and so far I have gotten nothing regarding that request. It’s incredibly frustrating to spend this much time trying to get help with a product that worked perfectly for a couple of months and then stopped working. I would have given this product a much better rating if the company stood behind it and actually provided helpful customer service. The product itself is cool. The customer support is what’s ridiculous.

Absolutely a game changer. Limited space? Limited water? We used to BLOW through our culinary alotment on a few raised garden beds and flower pots. We probably ran 40gallons a day trying to keep plants watered, and then we'd miss a day, and in desperation overwater. We are older and wiser now, but with this system, that's not horribly relevant. I even left the lines strung out over our winter, we hit -20 for a few DAYS. No leaks hooking it up today, and we have MORE produce and flower THRIVING than we have had with ANY other system we tried. I have two of these running, will be ordering more soon, and will continue to build out my system = 1x 55gal drum, THIS solar waterer, 3x half whiskey barrels and 2x 8'x2'x2' "trough style" beds. The panel may eventually age out, but the hookups look like they are the same/similar to other panels, and JIYANG has continued to expand their options, with extender kits, parts and various other gear to make your hands off, water-wise gardening dreams come true!

I would have given this 5 stars if it weren't for the HORRIBLE instructions! Thankfully some other "old lady" has a youtube video on how she assembled hers. There was nothing in the instr. about the anti-siphon, or what the plastic screw holders were for (to mount the solar panel instead of using the included stake) or how to end the line. This was my first time doing anything like this.. Timer settings are 5, 15, 20 min watering every 12 or 24hrs. Total installation time was about 1.5hrs. I have this in a 4x8 raised bed using a 10gallon bucket to supply the water . The pump has a nice fine mesh filter and a couple of marbles to weigh it down in the water. When placing the blue stakes in the tube, be careful because the end of the stake that feeds into the tube can get bendy and be very drippy if you're not careful. I'm in OKLA - I laid the tubing out in the sun - it was HAWT - and once I did that - the tube was pretty effortless to push onto the joiners and drip stakes. However, it was tough to the hose pushed on the water out/in ports of the solar panel/pump assembly. The instructions state to use hot water to soften the hose - I guess that's feasible if you're working inside - but not outside. Hot sun worked well. Day four, and she's still going like a champ. I check it in the evenings to make sure nobody's over-watered. Plants are all perfect. SO NICE to NOT have to tromp out through wet grass at 0500 to water every morning. Raised 4x8 bed - I laid out the hose and secured it with landscape staples where I wanted to cut/insert a drip stake. Glad I did that because I had to re-think a couple of places to ensure all the plants were watered properly. I purchased two - and will buy a 3rd with the next raised bed.

We ended up loving this thing. We’re using it on our dock on a river, feeding water to 19 emitters. After about six weeks the plants have never looked better. Setup was stupid simple and there’s plenty of tubing. Mounting options are good and the solar panel has had no problem keeping up. Programming the timer is straightforward. It’s been completely fire-and-forget so far — no clogs and no other issues. The only extra step I added was putting a bucket paint strainer over the intake filter. I only have to replace that every couple of weeks and it keeps everything running clean. At this price point I have zero complaints. It’s doing exactly what we needed in a spot with no faucet or power, and the plants are thriving. I’d buy it again without hesitation.

So far I love this thing. I got it today and set it up. Super easy to do. I put it up into a temporary spot just to test it and I ran it for 3 rounds of 20 minutes today and it is really lowering the water nicely. Context: I get a ton of runoff from my neighbors yard every day and was digging a French drain to handle it. The trench itself isn’t done yet and I still have quite a bit to dig. I also figured having a trench and French drain is a nice way to also have free water for some flowers. (We’ve been battling massive heat plus this runoff hasn’t been kind to the flowers, so hopefully I get it all in place soon and heal the flowers up. Is what I’m doing the best method for this? Who knows but it is what I decided to do on a whim.) We had a big thunderstorm today so the water in the trench was massively more than normal so I threw this in there. We still have a ways to go but I think this will work awesome when I’m all the way done with the work. The outlet is going to end up watering a veggie garden but for now is just draining into the greenbelt behind the house. The first picture is when I first turned it on. Then there’s a photo of after an hour of it running in 20m intervals. The closer shots are before and after the last 20 minute cycle so you can see what one 20 minute cycle does. Update (from 5 to 3 stars): I just hooked this up to water 10 plants and it doesn’t have enough pressure to water that many. It only dribbled out water to the first 4 or 5 and none of the others. If I plugged the first one, another one would start dripping, so I know it wasn’t a clog in the line. I’d had high hopes after it really did a good job with just the straight line, but it really let me down when adding the Ts.

Been running this since spring started. It has done the job well to keep two large planters with multiple plants, perfectly watered. I ended up buying a plastic 5-gal bucket and settng it to run for 5min every 12hrs. I have to fill the bucket about once per week and my Herbs, tomato, and strawberries are growing like crazy. I do wish it was easier to tell if the water sensor has detected the water level is low. It has a red light underneith the panel and a very quiet beep. But the beep only goes off when it is watering time and it's empty, it doesn't continue to beep (like every 5 min or something). Still, you figure out when it will need water and it's not really an issue.

The system team worked fine for about 3 months. Then the pump started beeping and I looked up the operating manual. The manual said the beeping is caused by a clog or low on water. There was plenty water in the source so I cleaned the tubes and the filter. The beeping continued. I then looked at the contacts that tell the unit about water level and they were a bit tarnished. I cleaned them with a cloth and there was some short term relief to the beeping. A couple of days later, the beeping started again and I looked at the contacts and they were fully corroded. This time I decided to use sandpaper to clean the corrosion, but the beeping continued. A couple of days later, I checked again and tried to clean the cover contacts again, but one fell off. That is when I gave up and decided to write this review.

Sehr gute Qualität mit einem einzigen Fehler. Das ist meine zweite Bestellung, da bei der ersten Bestellung die Kontakte ,die den Wasserstand anzeigen sollen, komplett verrostet waren und somit das Wasser und den Filter in eine braune Brühe verwandelten. aber die Einstellung ist wirklich leicht vorzunehmen. Es klappt Alles wie es beschrieben ist. keine Sorgen auch an heißen Sommertagen--wenn immer genug Wasser in der Tonne ist. Diese muss extra gekauft werden. Ich empfehle eine Tonne ab 120 Litern. Sonst muss man zu oft nachfüllen. In der Tonne wird ein Kabel mit zwei unterschiedlich langen Kontaktstiften eingehängt. wenn der Wasserstand zu wenig ist, ertönt ein Alarm, allerdings sind diese Kontaktstifte nicht legiert. Sie rosten leicht und schnell. Trotzdem sind das Produkt, die Schlauchlängen, die Wassertropfer und das Solarpaneel mit der eingebauten Wasserpumpe und dem Bewässerungscomputer zu empfehlen.

This system seemed like a good idea. We bought it, installed it and it worked well last summer. However, it stopped working after one season. The firm were slow in replying when we tried to contact them but they did eventually reply and replaced the faulty system. It is working well now but we will see how this new system does next season. On the whole l am happy with it.
