Extremely useful
This item should be in every living quarters in case of any question about water intrusion! It can read humidity levels through hardwoods, softwoods, masonry, et al, in nano-seconds. You can plot the area of water dispersal by the level of humidity detected. I never realized there was such a guage until my water heater leaked beneath the flooring in my bathroom, closet and bedroom.Truly, if you don't have one, buy it as soon as you can.

Got Water?
We had a water problem in our home that was the result - I guess- of water accumulating drop by drop for a long time before it was discovered. But, once the dam broke, water was everywhere. The insurance guy came over and recommended a restoration company to do the work of drying out the areas affected, repair and replace the damaged parts of the home, and, most importantly, do mold abatment. So, and out came the rugs, walls, and some flooring. The water abatement guys seemed good and drying out the affected areas took quite a long time, but they were diligent, and eventually things dried out to their satisfaction. But I just had a suspicion that in at least one spot between the joints in the sub-floor, there was still some water there. Since the water abatement guys were long gone, I needed a way to see if I was wrong or right, and that's where this American Mutt water meter came in handy. I ordered it from Amazon on Wednesday, and it showed up Thursday. I read the instructions and put it to work, and lo and behold, there was indeed water detected just where I thought it was. The water guys were called back in and they confirmed that some water was just where the Mutt tool uncovered it. And there was a ton of mold behind the wall of the shower. The pro's use a water detector that has pins on the end to measure the amount of water contained in a given area. Some folks don’t like these because they can leave a mark on the walls or trim which in themselves need to be repaired. The Mutt has no pins, and its accuracy was well within the range of the pro tools. This little baby saved me so much grief that its hard to put a price on it. You see, the water the Mutt detected was from another leak in the shower plumbing behind the shower wall. It was separate from the initial leak, and if at that point the reconstruction had begun, it was just a matter of time before we'd have to do the whole thing over again. Great little product that saved me a fortune and allowed me to dispute the completeness of the water abatement company’s work. Buy one.

Not as advertised.
Meter did not live up to advertised function. Constantly changing settings and positioning, are a pain.Pay a little more, get one that works and is accurate. Cheap junk!
